Apparently Jerry's gaskets sent my buddy a care package and I was the chosen one to help. Robs one of my best friends so it was a pleasure. He has a 1994 ZR-1 with only about 30k on it. Corey Henderson made Jeal headers. A 3" B&B exhaust. 4:10 rear end and a Corey tune. The car has no top end porting and dynode at 410rwhp which is amazing considering the top end has never been touch. And That fact was obvious to see when I cracked the plenum open. Never been touched. Anyway order of the day was.
1. Replace bad water pump.
2. Replace thermostat.
3. Install Semco hoses and air horn.
4. Replace coils

I arrived at 10:00am. Rob was hoping we would be done with everything by 2:00pm. I reassured him that wasn't going to happen. No way. But we got it half done. Thermostat installed along with the new water pump. Tomorrow the rest of the hoses and the coils.. Put it all back together and it's done.:p

This is nothing you guys haven't already seen or done before. But the funny part is that the reason Robs in a hurry to get the care back together and running is because the owner of the house where he's been storing it at is selling the house. The owner is a cat fanatic. There are cats all over the place. I told the owner that we have to store the antifreeze we drained out of the car in a sealed container so the cats won't get into it. I said we don't want to accidentally thin out the heard lol! The owner gave me this horrified look. He obviously didn't think it was funny. Some people are really attached to their cats. Personally I don't care for them. I thought it it was funny though:p

I take it your friend has never worked on a car before.

Great job. Wish I was closer to lend a hand.

Helping each other is the best part of owning a ZR-1. I don't know of any other group that I have ever seen be so willing to help a brother ZR-1 owner out when in need.

Question: Why did you pull the AC plumbing and coolant horn?

Well we started back on it at 2:00pm and had it done at 5:00pm. Good news is that with the new water pump it doesn't overheat in 5 minutes. Runs cool at 180. Bad news is even after replacing all of the coils he still has a miss. The miss doesn't slow the car down at all though. We were on the feeder road and he blasts up to 150mph and all of the Jerrys gasket receipts almost blew out the open windows. So luckily I caught them all in mid air. He's going to drop it off at Coreys to take care of the miss.

...

I arrived at 10:00am.

You're a better friend than me...I would have made him bring it to my driveway to be closer to the tools I would inevitably forgotten to pack in my mobile service kit.

4 hours... that was optimistic:p

4 hours... that was optimistic:pHe couldn't Mike. His water pump was toast and he couldn't make it 3 blocks without it over heating. My house is 20 miles from where his car was. So I just packed up the tools I needed in a portable tool box. We had to fix it where it sat.

I've had to replace an alternator on the side of the road one time in mine. After I got my top end powder coated and put back together the owner of Precision powder coating wanted me to bring the car back so he could take pictures of the engine so he could put them on his website. He had never done an LT5 ZR-1 before. So me and a coworker went there for lunch. On the way back my alternator froze up. Called Orielly's and picked up a new belt and alternator for $130. Me and my coworker got it all done right before dark. So he takes off home and I start the car. It is running like crap. Then I realized that the map hose was not plugged in. It was pitch black accept for the hood lights. So I just squeezed my hand in there and plugged it back in. Purred like a kitten. And I was on my way home. Here's the link to Precision powder coating and the pics of my Z on his website http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/19106580

Yep....even more fun when you get a call that a ZR1 quit on a side street after dark :D
