Guys,

I’m looking for a rear ZR-1 chrome A-mold. When I purchased my 1990 Z, one of the rears was a 50mm GS offset and not the correct 36mm offset. While I only need one, I realize that likely no one would sell just one, so I’m happy to buy a set.

There are several folks on the site with a full set of deep-lug chrome A-molds, but they don’t want to split them up (and I don’t necessarily blame them).

I don’t have the original A-molds (made in Japan, JWL stamp), but I do have early AFS clones which are very close to the original and have the correct deep lug area.

None of the current aftermarket A-molds are deep-lug, so I need something that was produced “a while ago.”

If you have a deep-lug 11x17 chrome A-mold, I’d love to take it off your hands.

Gary

Check on $$ to get it chromed.
I have a painted AFS I'll sell $200 shipped.

***EDIT***

This morning I checked with the two platers that we use here at our shop.

I've only heard back from one and to strip/clean/prep/chrome my existing painted wheel would be ungodly expensive.

Looks like I now have a buyer for both my painted wheels.

Thanks, but you're right ... chroming is expensive. I'd love to find one/two already chromed.

Ghlkal, I have also been looking for just 1, 36 mm 17x11 A-mold deep lug wheel for awhile. If you run across a set I'll split them with you. :handshak:

OK, that sounds like a plan. You're looking for a chrome wheel too, right?

Yes, just one chrome is all I need. I've been on and off looking for a couple of years, but seeing that they've become so difficult to find I better get that off my list!!!

So, the ones on e-bay that are listed for our cars at 50mm offset are not correct?
They have a set of replica a-molds, 17x9.5 56mm and 17x11 50mm.

Those are Grand Sport replica's which sport the rear 50mm offset.

AFS looks like they have a nice set, reasonably priced.

The "new" AFS ones that I have seen are *not* deep lug though ...

I see that, but they'll still fit our cars. Correct?

Yes, as long as they are 36mm offset (rear)

Email this fellow, docz-1stratecorvette@hotmail.com. He said he can get the correct offset ZR1 replicas with the deep lugs. Going to order a set from him.

I'd get some confirmation with snapshots of the face and the wheel back-side(that should reflect wheel size/offset) before doing a buy. I don't doubt there's maybe product out there but there's certainly reason for confirmation of what you'll receive first.

I will see if I can get a pic but I specifically asked about the offsets and deep lug vs the deep lip and he said he could get 5 he correct ones. House of Wheels told me the same so guess someone is making them.

OR everyone doesn't understand. Deep lug doesn't mean "THE DEEP POCKET" that the OE was constructed with. That confusion has caught more than a few opening boxes with the wrong stuff.

Deep lug only means that the original wheel studs can be used for the wheel to be bolted to the car, if they weren't "deep lug" then the install would require longer wheel studs because of the material used to create the offset.

I agree with WVZR-1 ... many people say they have deep pocket, but they really don't.

Now, Steve's image does appear show a deep lug construction ...

So the one I posted above, is that the correct one we need?

It looks like it's deep pocket. I sent them an email message about it. Depending upon their response, I may follow up and ask them to measure the "pocket" -- it should be about 2.75" from the plane of the spokes to the face of center cap.

Thanks for tracking this down ... we'll see

Keith at docz-1stratecorvette@hotmail.com was kind enough to send some images. I attached one here.

While the pocket is a little deeper, I don't think it's the depth of the original. (compare this image to my pic at the beginning of the thread)

Is that the 17x11?

It's supposed to be.

I replied and asked him to measure the depth of the pocket.

As you can see on my wheel, the pocket is about 2.75" deep

Just to follow up. They could not provide a depth measurement for me, but judging by the pictures I don't think this is a deep pocket wheel.

If they are made by Factory Reproductions, the 17x11 will have OEM deep lug style. All other manufacturers go with a deep lip.

I am looking for a set of 17x9.5 A-molds of the same era. I have a original set on the rear, but as you have pointed out, the new "replicas" are not the same. Different shape on the spokes as well as different color shade. I need a set of the silver, so I suppose it's a long shot, but if someone had a mixed set of chrome rears and painted fronts...I would pitch in for a set as well!! Stranger things have happened!! Lol.
