View Full Version : Great Day Today....... until
Worked on the LPE ZR-1 today with my son Morgan, removing secondaries, etc. Washed up & took Karen for a ride down old Route 66 in our 2013 Grand Sport, waving at the other Vettes. old & new. Got a little hungry so we went to the Grand Casino on I-40 to try out a new Brazilian Steakhouse. Had a great dinner, won a few bucks at blackjack, and then got a page over the PA system to report to security.
This was the end of a great day. Broke every piece of glass, clubbed the Nav/Radio system, broke off a mirror. The vandal also broke most of the glass in a 4dr sedan nearby. Fortunately, a witness followed, got a tag #, reported to police & Hwy patrol.
Only 7,055 miles. :-x

Well... I too am at a loss for words, Jerry. I'm soooo sorry.
Now, if the vehicle they left in wasn't stolen, then maybe there's a chance the bastards will be caught, and maybe, if they haven't already spent their life savings on dope, they might have the cash to make you whole again before spending some time in jail, should you press charges.
Anything we can do?

It is beyond sad and pathetic that someone would do that to someone else's property, let alone a Corvette. It is especially sad, knowing the good people that they did that to.
I wonder what motivates a person to do something like that.
I am very sorry to see that Jerry. I am glad that you and Karen are alright.

Often, I've found, the people who destroy other people's property like this are of the mind "if I can't have it, you can't either". Sick is what it is! If these types would go out and get a real job, they too might enjoy nice things like a Corvette. Unfortunately they prefer to remain jobless, receive government subsidy at taxpayers' expense and raise havoc with the property of others whom they feel are their oppressors or something. What a shame! Oh yes, I hear the cries of the do-gooders. "We need to feel sorry for these poor people because they cannot find jobs." That's nonsense! There's work out there for everyone who wants to work. It may not be in the job of choice, but there is employment for everyone. I see signs everywhere that say "hiring", but employers tell me there are few takers. I guess it's just a lot easier to accept welfare and steal from others in more than one way. Sorry for the rant and I'm really sorry for your loss Jerry.

Thanks all, for the nice words. I can't imagine the rage this guy had/has, but his troubles are continuing. Felony offense.
I have never obtained a C/C permit even though I do have a suitable armory. Would not have helped in this case because not allowed to carry inside & would have had to leave it in the car.
Didn't want valet to park, so parked out aways, in only 1 space to not lure the haters. Just makes me sick. I know the paint will be damaged from all the glass.
Oh well, there are still things to be thankful for..... like glad we didn't come out at the time it was happening, 67 yrs old, no gun and him with a ball bat and all that rage.

That REALLY does suck, but in thinking about it.. be thankful it is just glass and not a hit a run where the car is destroyed.. Also be thankful you and your wife were not in the car when it happened..
Hopefully there will not be too much paint damage from the glass but with new glass, Navigation and mirror the car will drive like it did before

So witnesses have a lic plate number, but next question is if the property security cameras cover that part of the lot well enough to see what happened. Probably might be difficult to prosecute the owner of the car as it could be someone else.

Even though the Vette is trashed, the main and most important thought is that you and your wife are unharmed.....like you mentioned if you were almost at your vehicle when this happen, things could have got ugly.
Two of my cars have been stolen in my lifetime, yea, it sucks....but I'm still here, and we're all glad that nothing happen to you and the Mrs.......
As they say, cars can be replaced, people, well not that easy!!!

Couldn't agree more with GSJoe's comments; looks like these rat bastards were trying to achieve "social justice" and your Grand Sport was their outlet. That's why I mainly just drive mine to shows, hang out near it, and drive it back to my garage. I'm too scared to park and leave it anywhere, lest some lowlife scum decide I'm a showoff for simply owning it and teach me a lesson.
So sorry this happened to you, Jerry. But glad you and your wife are safe.

The Casino has a little responsibility here also unless their parking lot is a wrecking yard.
I am still mad as hell and this kind of event is extremely rare and I am much more concerned about the other driver being sober than some drunk azz that just lost his last quarter in some slot machine.

Jerry, this is horrible. I am glad to see you and Karen are safe.
Thanks again for everyone's concern.
There is so much really fine glass all through the interior. It's in everything, carpet upholstery dash ducts door panels. I'm really concerned about getting it in our eyes when top is off, windows down or high blower.
We decided to not drive it again & trade to dealer for 2015 Z-51 LT-1 black coupe.
If it's only as good as the Grand Sport, we will be most certainly happy. It's surprising to me, but I'm really going to miss the Grand Sport. What a great driver with lots of performance for a road car.

Seeing those photos makes my blood boil. I can almost guarantee I would've shot that scumbag if I had caught him in the act.
Sorry,Jerry. I'm just glad you and Karen are ok.
Reminds me of the time I was cruising through a parking lot next to some parked old 18-wheeler trailers and some woods. Some little **** threw a rock at me. Luckily, I guess you could call it luck, my window was down and I got clocked in the side of my head, and the rock didn't touch my car. Landed in my lap.
It was dark, late, I didn't have anything with me for protection, and I didn't want to go to jail for beating a **** kid to death. So, I just headed home to vent.
I hope your idiots get caught. How anyone can think this is ok is beyond me...

Wow, Jerry! I think you are going to love that car!
I really like the interior design of the C7. It was only in that department ,in mho, that the C6 lacked. I didn't mind interior quality so much as much as my perceived "lack of inspiration" in the C6 interior design...especially if you were the passenger.
Sorry if this was posted...are you getting a manual or auto? Auto for Karen??

Auto.... for us both. We bought the C6 with a lot of travel plans in mind and that is our intent with the new C7. I have my ZR-1 that is heavily modified, to satisfy my right hand while driving. Since we won't be worrying about driving in the rain with it, the new weather mode system will reduce the pucker factor in wet conditions.
