I'd prefer to have them made as I don't think they like to be moved around a lot at the age they are. I'd make my own if I can find the parts to do it. I think I stressed the lines when I took off the MC when i changed the motor. No place will make the lines around here that I have even called a place called "corvette brakes"...they only deal in lines up to the c3.
Alternatively, does anyone see an issue with just replacing the lines with pre fab lines from Napa or the like? I've never flared brake lines and I've read that our steel lines can be difficult to splice (I think I would have to lose the existing male fitting on the fitting down stream).
thanks
sam

Hey Buddy. Sorry you are having brake line issues. are these just the short braided lines by the calipers? You might have to hunt around but I am sure they can be had. I am glad your car is alive and kicking and hope to see you soon. Long live Miami ZR1's!!

Hey Ed! How did the car show you were telling me about go? I'm sure your car was a HIT as it is just gorgeous!! That's about the time I discovered the soft pedal and leak so I didn't go.
No, the braided lines I'm talking about come directly out of the master cylinder, right after the little U shaped steel lines. They are about 2 feet long and have female fittings at both ends. They must not have liked being moved around while I had the steering column out.
I appreciate your concern about having brake issues, but for me, I guess I'm not much different from other DIY guys and look at it as an opportunity to learn, and turn some wrenches too. Since I bought the car, the ABS system has never worked (apparently it was defeated by the PO, but I won't speculate if it was to hide something or just for cost reasons) and so this is the Opportunity to fix it "while I'm in there". The abs, unlike many systems I eliminated (A.I.R.,SPTs, LPTWS to name a few) is not expendable IMHO and if it operates as well as the '96 did, is well worth repairing.
I guess I'll start a new thread about my progress or lack thereof :) I've already jumped i with both feet even though the manual I ordered hasn't gotten here yet.
Drop by my house any time..and bring your beautiful Z, so people in my neighborhood know I'm not the only guy obsessed with the c4 zr-1!!! I'm sure I'll hear you before I see ya LOL

Lee, that's great. Looks promising. I will give them a call today.
I'm sure I'll have to give them the fitting sizes and threads. Or, hopefully I can just send them the hose and they can duplicate it. I'll let you know what I find out either way. Thanks!

"on a hunch", I called classictube.com located in New York, and spoke with Tim in sales who said to box it up and send it to him and he will send me a quote to duplicate it...he then approximated 40 to 45 a piece.
Thanks a bunch LEE!

ED, we are two of a kind in the same small town, what, one mile apart? What a coincidence Eh? When I get these brakes nailed down, I'd really like to get together with you for some pictures of us and our two Z's near the Homestead Track.
Thanks for the offer to borrow the manuals. I do have one coming for the ABS system in our cars. I will post the name here in a minute. Hopefully it's will tell me more than I want to know. :)
Here is the book I bought. This one was the only one I found available on the net.
Title: "Bosch ABS 2U & 2S Micro Anti-Lock Brake Systems"

Ok Sam. Just in case I have the factory service manual and also have a mint tech 1A diagnostic tool with all the adapters ever made and all instruction documentation. I will bring it next time I drop by your house. Yes I agree we must take some pics of our cars in Homestead Track. Also, on February 15 Sunday there will be a show at the Biscayne national park on 328 street all the way east to the ocean. I try to go every year and support local shows in Homestead. Maybe you might want to go and meet some of the Corvette Club people also. See you soon.

Ed you are awesome. I am in the study/learning stage still. The system is starting to make sense, demystifying that deep dark well behind the seat where
strange clicks, whirring motors and (in my case) a rats nest of wiring resides and hopfully I will understand it enough to get it working properly.
You can't imagine how much I appreciate your....(WHAT??? YOU HAVE A TECH 1!!!! lol??? You been holding out on that one lol ) offer and I will most certainly take you up on it when the time comes. I have ordered 2 Abs units from ebay because the first seller informed me he wouldn't be able to ship it for a month, and I'm anxious to get it on the road. Oh well, I'll have a spare.

Ed, I hope I'm off that day. I'd love to go to that. It's only 8 miles, due east! With no brakes, I should get there really quick too :dancing
