bill is trying to figure out why we are still having problems with my 90 trying to get it to run right after deleting the secondries . we have tried everything . secondary map sensor with vacumme and without and still setting code 61. those with 90s did you pull the port throttle selonoid nd if you did . what did you do with the electrical connections did you jump them or just do nothing . help we are out of ideas

You probably have not made the calibration changes necessary. The Diff MAP sensor is showing inadequate vacuum is my guess,

corey did the prom for the car. we tried to different types of map sensors per coreys suggestion . what about the port throttle seinoid is it still in the circuit or not ????????

Although I have no direct experience with this mod, I always thought you had to keep the vacuum pump connected to the map sensor for the secondaries. The port solenoid has no feedback to the ecm so it doesn't even know it isn't there. That's why the vacuum sensor is under the ecm- to check to see if the secondaries are getting vacuum. be sure to hook it up to the pump, not manifold vacuum.

1990. Halibeck chip. Solenoid valve in place and electrical connections in still hooked up. Vacuum sensor hose off. Key on always.

The ECM needs a signal from the Differential MAP sensor telling it there's enough vacuum. Originally I had done that with a resistor connector plugged into the harness at the sensor. But Marc and Pete discovered a change to the calibration that would always allow secondaries to operate just keeping the Harness connected to the sensor. No need for vacuum.

thankyou everyone for your ideads .I will forward them to the zfdoc where the car is at presently . I am stuck at home 450 miles away with a bout of pneumonia. being a poor retired guy sucks .lol
Brad,if you still have the secondary vacuum pump run a hose from the vacuum pump to the secondary/differential MAP make sure the pump is pluged in and working
You'll also need to leave the secondary solenoid pluged in no need for vacuum to solenoid.
All should work fine.
Let us know.

that is the way she is hooked upand still show a code 61 . ?if the solenoid is bad could that cause this . when the car is running you can feel the solenoid clicking really fast .

we added wiring so the solenoid is outside the plenum .
The power switch in the center console is ON?
Vacuum Pump plugged in and working?
Differential MAP electrical connector plugged in?
You have the correct Differential MAP?
You sure you have the correct secondary solenoid and not the EVAP solenoid plugged in?
You went straight from vaccum pump to Diff. MAP nothing in between?
If the above is correct secondaries should work or you have something else gong on.
You would not need to add wire to secondary solenoid wire if you peel it out of the loom should reach firewall easy.
The EVAP wiring is short.

yes to all the above everything is correct I believe . guess we have something else going on .but I am 450 miles away from bill b.aka zfdoc who has been trying to help me get her going .all worked okbefore . so I have no idea what is wrong now. but I am not there .guess I should defer everything to bill. @billb@zfdoc.com .I wish I could be there to help but am very sick pneumonia and out of money to make the trip.thanks to all for your help .you are a great bunch of fellas to hang with

Brad,
I guess I'm confused. What do you mean by eliminating the secondaries? Are they strapped open, pulled everything out, what?

At this point I would ask you to check the obvious:
Is there actually vacuum in the line from the pump to the map sensor under the ecm? I t'eed in a vacuum gauge on mine and saw that it makes about 13" of vacuum when the pump runs. This is what you need to have there other than reprogramming the vacuum number in the computer code to be atmospheric pressure. If the pump is weak or leaking, maybe it really is reporting a code 61 because of not enough suction. Not sure if you said if Bill had checked that. Other possibility is a corrupted program on the chip or a bad ecm (too bad you don't have one to swap).
My last question (to anybody who knows) is why you would need to leave the port solenoid plugged in? Does the ecm monitor current/voltage to that device or is it just better to have it plugged in to not have an open circuit??

dominic , we pulled them all out and plugged with doorman plugs. so we cant go back very easy. we ran a vacuum line from the pump to the secondary map under the computer and left the solenoid hooked up/hope that helps

Brad,
If that doesn't do it, I would have Corey recheck his calibration. Basically, you have too much air flow with not enough fuel because injectors aren't coming on line because ECM won't let them because it doesn't see enough vacuum to keep throttle plates open.
Mike,
The solenoid only operates a check valve. I don't have mine. Don't have pump either. As long as ECM sees a voltage of > .7v(I think), it's happy. So secondaries will come on once you get to TPS% value programmed to turn injectors on.

thanx for the explanation dominic . now I can see what might be happening . I will send the prom back to corey to ck.

update , corey is sending out another ecm to try on the car he thinks something might have gone wrong with it . I will know more by the middle of next week and let everyone know the outcome . again thankyou everyone for all your help . it mean a lot to me all the kindness you guys shared . brad
