The guy that is actually fabricating those hoods is a member on the CF site. He has been building custom body parts for quite awhile and is well regarded.
Does anybody know how much this Carbon Fiber hood weighs and what does the stock hood weigh.

Seconding Pete's question...
Edit: It saves 24 lbs. See the below thread. Stock is 79lbs. and carbon fiber 55 lbs.

Jeff and I were following the build process on this hood. It came to a dead stop when the 1st one made fit like crap. The guy was trying to get a donor car to get another made for proper fitment but could not find any volunteers that were local to him. Maybe Robert can help in moving it forward (would be great) There is a long thread on it on the CF. Go get em Robert :saluting:

According to this site which is advertising a carbon fiber hood, the carbon hood weighs only 21 lbs, which is 48 lbs lighter than the stock C4 hood. By deduction the stock C4 hoods weigh 69 lbs.

Rob i wanted this to save weight i heard/read carbon fiber and thougt here is an easy 50lb diet but don't think this is worth the $$$ to weight savings.
Rob you can save 20 lbs, just leave your wallet home.:)
Toledo Hoods are 20+ lbs lighter then stock cost less, i also hear they can make whatever your/our needs and make them lighter.
Maybe call ToledoPro for a group buy.
I would want a stock looking hood and at least 40lbs savings

Pete you asked for a group buy so here you go. We would have to get him a hood to use in Las Vegas.
If we are going to do this as a group buy I would suggest the Toledo pro hood.
Carbonfiberhood , custom made from new mold
Hoods will shrink from original donor part on average 1-2mm each side so if the donor part has gap this will have more gap.
Corvette C4 Carbon fiber = $1200each
5 required to buy at once.
Turn around 3-4 months.

Thanks Rob,you are awesome.
That is a killer price.
Like i mentioned in my previous post after finding out it only saves 20 something lbs just not worth the price.
If it shaved 50 lbs i would be all over it.

The Blackdog hood has come down a lot in price I see, still not cheap by any means but I'm guessing the quality on this piece is very good. I am very interested in a lightweight factory style hood.
Pete, You are looking at around 60# total.
Rob,i read on the other forum it only shaves 20 lbs.
The 60 lb lighter hood is this something new or are we confusing the total weight of the hood they make (60 lbs) since the OE hoods weigh 80lbs for a 20 lb savings.
Don't we have any Vegas members?

Am I understanding correctly? Blackdog might make these? Are the hoods going to have vents & a higher center rise like Pete's original post? I could forego the vents but would prefer a higher rise. Thanks for your effort Robert

Something's wrong here. Toledo Pro used to advertise their fiberglass hood as saving more than 20 lbs. What's the deal? Plus, how can they offer CF at the same price as an old Toledo Pro fiberglass hood?
IMHO, a ZR-1 specific hood should have some design mods.
The LT5 runs much better when cooler, so the vents, (with some water drain provision), are a great idea.
A slight rise to clear the engine, (like the active suspension ZR-1, not the Toledo Pro 3" "Race" hood), would be effective too. My motor, with 1/4" resin plenum plates, is actually vibrating against the hood. That's less than ideal.
So, why not design one like GM "shoulda done" back in the day. Not just for weight, but for more effective air flow, to solve clearance issues, and to set the ZR-1 noticeably apart from the regular C4.
If it had all those factors, and a good fit, I'd be a buyer.
+ who's going to be the guinea pig to see if it actually fits? 20 or more sloppy, ill fitting hoods would be an aggravating group buy.

A pic of that GM ZR-1 specific hood:
http://www.zr1.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=3945&stc=1&d=1417955215
My favorite C4 ZR-1 hood. It clears the big engine, but no massive rise to interfere with sight lines.
