I have a good friend who normally only deals in 1953-1982 Vette parts but he recently acquired a load of C4 and C5 parts. He asked for my help identifying some of them. He said the guy was very proud of a set of wheels. At first I thought they were 1990 ZR-1 wheels....2 17x9.5 and 2 17x11. Closer look and they have the full cast screw on centers and look like the wheels from 1989.

How can I ID them as factory '89 pilot 11" wheels?

Thanks for the help. Everything is still enroute from NM so I can't easily post photos until next week. They're a bit rough....lots of road rash, but restorable, I'm sure. He has no idea how the guy came to have them.

The dates are stamped on the backside of the barrel. 1988 and 1989 look the same. The grey paint is darker on 1988 wheels.

Next time I'm at his shop, I'll take a look for the date codes.

He also has no idea how to price them. I have no idea. It seems like they're not common enough to go by others.

Were the 89 style wheels ever repro'ed in 11"?

These wheels have never been repro'd. The market for this stuff is pretty narrow. Have to find the right buyer who wants them. I have an extra set but will never sell them. I wouldn't take $1000 for the pair BUT....it's doubtful anyone would offer that much either.

Chris,
Does your friend have a left rear trim in great shape for a 1990ZR1? If so, I would be interested.

My gut tells me that more wheels were made than cars built. For a number of years '89 11" wheels were in MidAmerica's catalogs. They do show up for sell from time to time. $1000 or so is probibily fair. Unique is a good word. Only a hand full of guys really "need" them. You did not say if they were new or had been run. Tires to match?

BTW. I am looking for some C4 NOS parts. Is what your friend got new stuff?

Sorry, I've been out of touch moving in for the last week.

The wheels are used with a set of Goodyear ZRs on the. I only looked at the top wheel in the stack and it had some curb rash. Some of the clear was iffy, but I'm not sure until they're cleaned up.

From what I saw, most of what he had was C5 stuff and used.

Best thing to do is call him. His name is Randy and his shop is Yesterday's Corvette, 1-719-570-9011.

He's a total first class guy and I've done business with him for the better part of a decade when I had a '72 and '69.

I even was getting parts from him after I moved away and was putting my 69 back together. He happily ships.
