For everyone coming across the country you may want to add a couple of days for the MR3 (Mountain Run 3) We meet up the sunday before BG and drive through some of the nicest mountain ranges in NC, SC, GA, TN, KY on our way to Bowling Green. It looks like we will be joined by the GSR this year so it will be very interesting having 35 to 50 cars.

For the record, David arranged a VIP factory tour several years ago for me, a young friend and three other Registry members at that year's Gathering. It was a fantastic experience! First of all, the retired GM employee who does the tour knows much, much more about the build process than the college interns who do the regular, public tours. Secondly, he takes his small group to places on the line the regular tours never get to see. Thirdly, because the VIP tour group is small--about four or five people--it's a lot easier to hear what the guide is talking about. My friend, who was about 21 at the time, was the youngest member of the group. The guide chose him to start a C6 for the fist time--a car that we had been following--when it got to that point in the line. For doing this, my young friend was given a "birth certificate" for bringing the new baby to life. The certificate contained the car's VIN, my friend's name, and some words attesting to his "midwife" efforts. It was signed by the foreman of that station. My young friend was thrilled, and I'm sure it was an experience he'll never forget. Honestly, the VIP tour is well worth the price even if it's more that David has quoted. I've toured the plant quite a few times since 1985, but the one VIP tour I had was so much more spectacular in every way. If the option is available for the 2015 Gathering, I will certainly do it again.

The track day activities....
Is this going to be actual laps at speed or is this going to be pace laps behind an instructor who's driving at 7/10ths?
Also, will this be an actual "day" or just a brief session on the track?
Finally, any idea on cost?

It's a interesting proposal. We land on 9th May in Nashville at about 5.00 PM and stay over night. So we look for interesting places, pubs or bars to go. My hope is to find a restaurant, where we can eat tasty big steaks and bison meat. Maybe somebody of you guys have a idea?
The same about Memphis. Are there people who can advice us where to go, beside of visiting Graceland? We plan to stay from Sunday the 10th till Tuesday the 12th. We also can leave one day earlier.
On the way back from Memphis to Bowling Green, which route is the more interesting to drive. The route 40 (Memphis - Nashville) or another one?
Is it worth to visit in Kentucky the facility Jim Beam? Or does anybody have another interesting idea? In Bowling Green we will check in on Wednesday the 13th May.
And by the way: 2-3 Ladies will join us. Maybe somebody know interesting shopping malls or outlets?
We are open for all kind of ideas and proposals in our tour planing.

Sam, my wife and I spent a week in Kentucky back in October and there is plenty to do. She wanted to see the sinkhole before they filled it in so we did the NCM tour as well as the plant tour.
We then headed to Lexington and on the way stopped by the Makers Mark distillery and the Woodford Reserve distillery (the oldest distillery in the USA). There are numerous distilleries that do tours.
Once we were in Lexington we visited Keeneland Park which is one of the major horse tracks and took a tour which was really cool. One of the most amazing things we did was we took a guided tour of 6-8 of the top horse farms around Lexington. It takes most of the day and it is amazing. We visited the farm of Kenny McPeek who is one of the top trainers and were feeding some of the horses we had seen run in past Kentucky Derbys. The horse farms around Lexington are a great thing to visit.
We then headed back west to Louisville and visited Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby Museum and took that tour as well as the tour of the Louisville Bat company in downtown Louisville.
As far as malls and outlets we didn't visit any but there are a lot of antique shops to hit.
Basically, I highly recommend spending some time in Kentucky if you have the opportunity. We loved our visit.

Very excited about the agenda for BG on its 25th anniversary!!!!
Unfortunatley Tommy Morrison will not be able to make this years anniversary.... But we have many special people coming and some rare video of the event we will show.
There is a special private tour of the plant (typically for new C7 owners) that we will be able to be a part of. It's 1 plant worker per members and a detailed discussion of what's going on. We will have limited #'s
Bill Boudreau will discuss ZF-6 transmissions and a special Q & A!! This is something everyone will not want to miss
We will have a special BBQ Friday night with Texas ribs, Chicago sausages and some other member specialities. Anyone interested in bringing something special from their city / state, please let me know!!!!
The Motorsports Park will have special pricing for ZR-1 Net Registry members and look out for updates on when sign ups are available. We will have the sign ups on the NCM's website in the coming week! (The next post will detail out what's available)
Sarurday there will be a Distilery Road Tour and a very special tour leader..... Hint, similar to the 2010 anniversary!!!!!
Marc Haibeck will discuss finding and fixing vacuum leaks. We sincerely appreciate his yearly contribution to the Gathering!!!! Thanks Marc!!
Graham Behan will be discussing the 475hp LT-5 that should have been in production!!! This is the prototype motor he brought 2 years ago to display and it is being installed on a 1993 Ruby ZR-1. Graham is hoping to dyno it before the gathering and see what numbers it really gets!
We should have the exact breakdown of the agenda in the coming days on the NCM's website
Stay tuned....

here are some details on the Motorsports Park. Pricing and sign ups are coming within the next week
The ZR1 Net Registry and Grand Sport Registry is proud to announce their first Track Day at the annual C4 Gathering at NCM Motorsports Park in 2015! In a new long-term partnership with Hooked On Driving (www.hookedondriving.com), we have come together to provide a unique one-day Track offering that you will not want to miss!
We’ve rented the 2-mile, 13 Turn, West Course for the entire day, Thursday May 14, with special discount pricing for ZR1/GSR Members! Availability is limited, and all activities are first come, first served.
Activities will include:
• Show & Shine
• Touring Laps
• Shotgun Rides
• Hot Laps (TBD)
• and a full HPDE Classroom/Coach Program to go with it!
TOURING LAPS (exclusive to this event)……
If you’ve always wanted to take your ZR1 or Grand Sport on the track, but didn’t want to commit to an entire day of “thrashing”, here is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
Convertibles? Trailer Queen? NCCC Concours Winner? No track experience? No helmet? Passengers?
NO PROBLEM!!
We’ve worked out a schedule especially for you – THREE full sessions of up to 100 cars will be able to get on-track with little or no modifications to their cars, and helmets are not required. These are not the familiar “Lunch Time Touring Laps” you might be familiar with…these are full 20-25 minute sessions where you will be following a Lead Car for as many laps as you can squeeze in! And yes, passengers are allowed. You will even have a dedicated Classroom session! And if you want to run all three sessions, No problem! NOTE: Sand-bagging will not be permitted and will be enforced by a full-field Black Flag and end-of-session for everyone.
SHOTGUN RIDES……
Want to see what a sports car can really do on a track with an accomplished driver? In another exclusive offering, HOD has offered up their Instructor Corps (known as Coaches) to give you the ride of your life! All you need is a helmet (available for rental) and an empty stomach. Strap in for as many of these as you can handle – up to five sessions throughout the day are available – riding inside your choice of dozens of different sports cars (Corvettes, BMW’s, Porsches, Vipers, Mustangs and even Race Prepared Cars) for a full 30 minute Instructor-only session. Similar to an HPDE session, you’ll have full person-to-person communications between you and the Coach as they will not only show you, but talk you through the approach to each section of the track. This is an excellent way to get acclimated to a full on-track, at speed, HPDE experience.
HOT LAPS………
Those of you familiar with the NCM HPDE program will certainly recall these events; a Professional Race Car driver taking you out in YOUR CAR. If you’ve got a high-horsepower car (or any car for that matter) and you just want to see what it can do on an open track, but don’t want just anyone driving it, then this is the day you’ve been waiting for. We’ve lined up a few of the world’s best drivers to show you what your car was made to do. Don’t worry, they’re fully insured (and you should be too – talk to NCM about their exclusive Track Day insurance programs), and you can rest easy, their only goal is to make sure you lose your lunch, turn green, or stain your shorts. Tech Inspection is required, as is a helmet. Dissimilar driver/passenger seat belts and Convertibles are not allowed. These sessions are proven to sell out quickly, so you should act quickly if interested. Dry Cleaning is at owners’ expense.
NOTE: AS OF THIS WRITING, WE HAVE NO PRO-DRIVERS SCHEDULED FOR THIS EVENT, BUT STAY TUNED…AS SOON AS WE DO, THESE SESSIONS WILL SELL OUT!
HPDE (High Performance Driver Education)……….
These programs are what we know as the typical “Track Day”. Held at regional tracks all over the country such as VIR, Summit Point, Autobahn, Laguna Seca, Pocono, Sebring, and many others, they give drivers of high performance cars and sports cars the opportunity to drive their cars on a race track at speed. During the first sessions a coach will ride in the passenger seat, and teach the driver high performance driving techniques. All new drivers need to participate is a helmet (available rentals), and a Tech inspection to be sure their car is roadworthy. Beginners are given a thorough briefing and are introduced to their coach before they drive their car on the track. The initial "A Group" for beginning HPDE drivers, teaches smoothness, awareness, and driving a proper, safe and efficient line on track. A priority is also placed on learning basic car control skills such as late braking, proper shifting and understanding the concept of the apex of a turn. While A group has significant passing restrictions to maintain a conservative pace, the B - Intermediate, C - Advanced, and X- Coach groups have progressively more flexible passing rules and advanced level coaching. There is NEVER any competition — wheel to wheel or timed laps — in our programs. Hooked on Driving HPDE Programs are safe experiences for all, an enjoyable time for every driver — and they assure that the drivers come away with much more confidence in handling their car in an emergency situation.
All three run groups (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced) are available to the C4 Gathering as well as the general public. ZR1 Net Registry and Grand Sport Registry members get special discount prices. Four 25-30 minute sessions are included at this price. Tech Inspection is required, as is a helmet. Dissimilar driver/passenger seat belts and Convertibles are not allowed.

Applies to touring laps when a driver slows, "sandbagging" to create a gap and then exceeds the controlled speed while closing the gap to catch back up to the pack.

Robert,
Lots of events all over that you can do this with your own car. With The Drivers Edge for example for just over 300 bucks you get two days, total of 8 sessions, with instruction. http://thedriversedge.net/
You can search for events all over with Club Registration
https://clubregistration.net/login.cfm?CFID=15053448&CFTOKEN=bef636cf3950415c-385BD693-BC49-1BAF-553FF382ED2ADE80&jsessionid=8430cf432c2d1bbda54346f25644b2e2e704
Most events, unless a big name track (ex. CoTA, Daytona, etc.) are around the 300 to 400 price tag for 2 days of in car and classroom instruction. Not a bad price and on par with most other groups.
If you are looking for a school Houston, TX (I know its a haul for you just an example) has one. You can obtain your SCCA license for 1,750 using your own car. http://www.msrhouston.com/schools/competition
Here is the list of SCCA schools:

The Track X program is a new driving event at the NCM MSP. This activity takes place in an autocross-type environment, with coned gates and dedicated start and finish lines, but on the racetrack. It will be an open event, with no class structure –Runs will not be timed. Participants can expect between 2-3 runs, with an average lap taking about 1:40+ seconds, and most cars reaching speeds in excess of 90 mph!
We utilize 1.7 miles of our 2 mile West Track to make a fast but technical course to either hone your driving prowess, or to give you the chance to try out the whole track thing. We encourage a social atmosphere of non-competitive learning for any and all to come out and experience this awesome facility.
Rules: All participants must be in a track appropriate vehicle, and have a valid drivers’ license. Drivers under the age of 18 must have a guardian present to sign minor waiver. Convertibles are welcome! A helmet, close toed shoes, and long pants are required. We do have a very limited amount of rental helmets that will be available for $25 per day, but we encourage all participants to bring their own (the Corvette Museum Store has HJC helmets very competitively priced). Please be sure that your vehicle is safe for track use, no loose items, battery and wheels all tight and secured, and no leaks of any kind. Unfortunately passengers will not be allowed for speed runs.

I will not be able to make BG as planned. My 82 went down with a bad rear bearing, so I am in the process of replacing both T/A's which has set me back in $$$.
I already have a reservation at the Holiday Inn, and have to call and cancel. I was thinking that if anyone is interested, since no money has been paid, that the reservation can be transferred to another member who can make the trip, before I cancel.
If you are interested, let me know and we can see if they will do that, otherwise I will cancel it this weekend if there isn't any response.
Was really looking forward to going, but there is always next time!!!

8:00am – 4:00pm NCM Motorsports Park Activities
TOURING LAPS 8am – 12pm
If you’ve always wanted to take your Corvette on the track, but didn’t want to commit to an entire day of “thrashing”, here is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
Convertibles? Trailer Queen? NCCC Concours Winner?
No track experience? No helmet? Passengers?
NO PROBLEM!!
Touring Laps Last Approximately 4 Laps
NOTE: Sand-bagging will not be permitted and will be enforced by a full-field Black Flag and end-of-session for everyone.
$45
HOT LAPS 12pm – 1pm
Ride with a Professional driver in one of the Corvette Museum’s Corvettes.
Rides are approximately 2 Laps – ONSITE Registration ONLY
$100 Per Ride
Track X 1pm – 4pm
The Track X program is a new driving event at the NCM MSP. This activity takes place in an autocross-type environment, with coned gates and dedicated start and finish lines, but on the racetrack. It will be an open event, with no class structure –Runs will not be timed. Participants can expect between 2-3 runs, with an average lap taking about 1:40+ seconds, and most cars reaching speeds in excess of 90 mph

I'm sorry... What is this? The ZR-1 Registry and the Grand Sport Registry both donate 15,000.00 each and are supposed to receive two free track rentals (total of four) and all we get is a driving experience that is more suited to the electric Barbie Corvette.
After contemplating going to The Gathering to do the new track, I am canceling after seeing this joke of a track day. This is nothing what was promised, which is a true HPDE event.
Any chance we can have a true track event instead of parade lapping?

I have rooms booked at the three recommended locations (Fontana Village (Fontana Dam, 10-12 May), Country Inn and Suites (Alcoa, 12-13 May), and Holiday Inn University Plaza (BG, 13-17 May)) for the duration of MR3 and the Gathering, but would like to cut down on the cost.
If anyone's interested in cutting their hotel costs in half ($470 instead of $940 for the seven nights), let me know and we can share the rooms. All rooms are non-smoking, with separate beds.

I am not going to let you derail the topic.
The Registry was working on a HPDE that was mentioned in post 142. This was being promoted as a huge part of the event. This is why myself and others were going to travel a large distance to this event. I will not be making this trek to do 3 runs totaling 5 minutes.

There's a lot we don't know about that happens behind the scene setting up an event like this. It's not just our board that has to work together, the registry is working with the GS registry and the ncm to plan an event. This is a bit like trying to plan cross company picknick at an amusement park, does this happen in any other place then pittsburgh? Never been sure, but I digress. I trust the board did everything they could to make this event happen and put out the agenda as soon as they possibly could, it's not like anyone would want to put in all the time to this organization that they do to put on a half assed event.
This applies to the track day as well. There is far more involved to an HPDE day then showing up at noon, running 4 laps and then taking off to a road tour or seminar. Your day is going to start before 0700, drivers meeting at 0730, then split groups of tracking. Not how I want to spend my day honestly. The day isn't "free" either. We may not have to rent the track but corner workers aren't free, nor is EMS. There is so many more moving parts to just showing up and doing a few laps. Not to mention that not all the antedates are coupes, which adds to the headache of making HPDE happen.
I don't see "powerplays" happening on the board, I see a group of people who are dedicated to a car that has long since aged out of being the dominant car in GM's line up who are working to keep that car in the public's eye and GM's as well. When was the last time you saw GM say anything about our car? It's been a long time. GM also doesn't want to restore the spyder, the board is working to make that dream happen.
I can't get into what happened with David, but if he was removed, I'm sure there was a reason for it.

GC,
I was not personally attacking you, nor Kevin, nor any other moderator. I appreciate that Kevin took time to respond, and I can understand everything he had to say.
Your post is akin to the playground bully tempting a fight. I appreciate everything you guys do and am not interested in a fight.
I consider David Johnson a friend. I would also consider all of you friends, but I guess I know him more so.
In my original post I stated that I do NOT know the whole story. ...practically none of it actually.
I did witness removal of the post that attempted to explain part of one person's side of the story. Before that, I also witnessed another post that personally attacked our event coordinator.
Beyond that, I have just been making observations. GC, if anyone is ramping up the tone, you might be. If you took my post wrong, I apologize.
In the end, I hope you read between the lines to the true intent of my message.

Some of the posts here have pertained more to stirring the pot and "why a BOD resigned". We have other threads that can be posted to regarding resignations. This is NOT the thread for that topic.
I would challenge "anyone" to plan an event and have an agenda ready to submit by Xmas time. It just doesn't work like this.
And yes, if your post in this thread is not contributing to the title of the thread, and only causes disruption, it will be deleted for violating Forum Rule #12. In this case, you are welcome to start a new Thread with a new title.
Healthy dialogue is a good thing but I will not allow Forum Rules to be broken and that particular dialogue to fester.
There are currently two threads pertaining to resignations. This thread is NOT the place for that discussion. I am directing that discussion to those threads.
Thank you

Steve,
Remember Clayton last year? we might have topped off fuel in Clayton before the run to Helen ... I know that we went through Clayton after leaving the hotel in Dillard on Monday morning. Had we not made the turn at the light in Clayton and gone straight another mile we could have stopped at WalMart ... not a big deal except the folks in the Clayton WalMart are exceptionally nice & I enjoy shopping there ... and even more interesting if you remember the movie, Deliverance. Remember the kid playing banjo? He works at WalMart and I think he used to own a cafe in downtown Clayton. Much of Deliverance was filmed in and around Rabun County and they did hire several locals as "extras" in the film. Don't think that Deliverance had much of an economic impact on the local area but it was the film that helped launch the movie industry in the state of Georgia.
/G
Does he still play banjo? I would like to have a signed photo of him then & now with the banjo for my eclectic study decor.
Gunny
03-20-2015, 05:11 PM
Does he still play banjo? ...
He doesn't and never has played banjo ... he answered a casting call at his school in Rabun Co. and was chosen for the part largely because the director knew the "look" he wanted (using heavy make-up, costume, etc.). And for the Dueling Banjos take, another local (a banjo player) put his arms around the kid and through "movie magic" you didn't even know that it was a total set up ... at least that's the way it was done according to what I've heard/read. Sure looked real to me, though. Originally, I thought the recording was by Flatt & Scruggs but apparently it was done with the local playing banjo and the other actor playing the guitar (who apparently was a skilled guitarist). I really need to watch that movie again to see if I can recognize some of the locations, etc.
Here's a LINK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Redden) in case you want to read about it.
Apologies for slightly off-topic ... otoh, Mountain Run 3 will be driving on Rabun County roads very close to where Deliverance was actually filmed so I suppose it has some relevance.

Nobody has said it (yet), so I will: If you have never "pushed" your car/skills as yet, I think you will find the MR3 to be a great "bullpen" experience!
I've mentioned this before, but after the MR3 and the BG gathering, I got a chance to do some autox in new M6 Beemers. There were a couple people that claimed to have some kind of formal driving (HPDE?) experience, and one guy that admitted he raced regularly. But, just doing my best on my last run, not competing with anyone but me, I taken aback when suddenly surrounded by an instructor and a few other congratulatory persons. Apparently, I had just completed the quickest run of the day for the entire group of 28 drivers (that day), including a couple C7 drivers as well. Who, ME?
I guess my point is, if you really want to appreciate what your ZR-1 can do, and since there isn't to be any HPDE this year (yet), the MR3 just might scratch that itch for ya! Robert and Gunny put on an A+++ class act event that you really don't want to miss!!!

On another note, wasn't there going to be a country drive to a distillery on Thursday or Friday? I remember a few years ago when we did that and it was fun. I might just have to strike out on my own if nothing formal has been setup. --Bob

With my change of heart a few weeks ago, I'm in on BG and see you all in May. I have flight/hotel/rental car all set. I hate to be Z less again (2006/2010), but its the "people" as they say that kept me in this community. I'll be doing a "Hooked On Driving" here in Norcal at Laguna Seca on May 22nd with my new 95Z so I'm looking forward to that. Not the same as driving on the track with Z brothers, but the best I can do from here. Aloha and see you all soon!
:saluting:
Great news, Craig. After countless # of e-exchanges, it will be great to finally meet in person. I will have my recently-modified '91, so I'll help you through any serious withdrawal that's manifesting itself after a few days away from your 95.

Thanks Bob! Yes, same here and looking forward to it. I'm trying to leave this 95 alone, but it feels so weak compared to my 90. Just have to keep it okay for CA SMOG, will will do what I can. Can't wait to see your 91!! Take care and see you soon.

Is the feature turned off so we aren't able to see who is registered for the track day? The web site* says:
C4 Gathering Motorsports Park Event!
NCM Motorsports Park
Thursday, May 14, 2015
NCM Motorsport Park, Bowling Green, KY
No entries are listed - this may be because the organizer has disabled this feature or there are no registrations yet. List updated every 15 minutes.
I'm curious to see who has signed up.
Thanks.

There are 42 participants.Robert, what's the current count (for the afternoon autocross)?
I haven't signed up yet, but I'm pretty sure I will.
Thanks.
Believe it or not, a business trip is taking me to Bowling Green May 12-14. So it looks like I'll be attending this event. Only problem is I'll still be working on the 14th so I'll miss the track day events, but I can make just about everything else. Looking forward to it!
FWIW I have joined the registry, just don't see the Member tag yet. I'll get the event registration done asap.

... So it looks like I'll be attending this event.Fantastic! I love it when a plan comes together. :-)
How about the Mountain Runs leading up to the event? Ann and I are joining the MR group at lunchtime on day one, then staying with them to Fontana Village, Alcoa, TN and then to BG.
Of course, that assumes I get my car back in time. I'm having bad dreams about throwing tools and the facias, headlights, mirrors, door panels, etc. into the car and assembling it at the stops along the way as as we head north.

I wish I could, but I have to be in Bowling Green on Monday night, so I'll be headed up on Monday in a caravan of 1. :( But I'll definitely connect Wednesday evening for pizza. And if you need help in a last minute thrash to get your car ready, let me know and I can come over. Should ping Steve (We Gone), he's on the southside but might be up for a thrash too.
