They had the C7 pretty much dead nuts almost 24 months ahead of time. Here they are again w the mid-engine ZR-1. I know someone who works on Open Loop tuning for the C7 that has hinted he was working on something that would blow my mind. Sounds like the stars may be aligning. Be still my heart once again. This is the reason hey have been running a mid-engine prototype in the ALMS and its labeled CORVETTE.

Interesting for sure, but only 1500 units per year? I'm sure GM will be watching the draw of the 2015 ZO6 very closely.
Regardless if they actually build the Zora ZR1, the new GEN6 SBC is going to be a cool engine.

I was going to mention this point in the other thread going about a mid engine vette, but basically I would have a hard time believing that GM could get the economy of scale they need to keep the vettes affordable by having two different drive platforms. In other words every C8 coming down the pipeline would have to be mid engine or every one will be like they are now.

The same would have to apply to the engines. The trucks would have to share that too.

The article indicates that due to current automation technology, GM believes they can create multiple frame platforms on the same line and do it economically. If it's only 1500 units/annum, you could do several long runs of that rather than interspersed with "normal" C7s. Bowling Green now has the engine building facility at the plant, so that can be reconfigured quickly based on demand.

My WAG is the "Zora" will be AWD.

I think it will have a 450-hp class V8 or V6 biturbo driving the rear wheels and 300 or so horsepower worth of electric motors driving the front wheels.

When you really want a high fun factor you'll have 750-800 hp driving all four wheels.

don't dis the electric

it's instant torq, and if you keep the battery array really small (like 30 miles worth)

it's not as bad a weight penalty as you might think

go ride in a 918 and report back!

the nsx will be a stout competitor for a low price version and the technology will definitely trickle down

GM needs to steel some fresh ideas for a change and implement them in an affordable package

800 hp would get my attention, and it's not that far north of where we already are

the power trains will support it. if GM would just do a little fab work they could bolt the engine to the rear drive train, eliminate the torq tube and some of the heavy stuff and get a hybrid down to a reasonable and comparable weight

in the "never going to happen" fantasy, I'd love to see a micro turbine powering a generator and go with 4 high torq motors
