When I bought the 1991 Z, the radio wasn't working, so the dealer sent the 4 amps and CDM to Factory Car Stereo Repair in Florida for rebuild/repair. Once installed, the radio was working great. However, soon I noticed that the front right speak would not have any sound when I start the car. No static. Then after driving for 20 minutes, the sound would come back. I didn't get a chance to check to see if it's a loose connection and stopped listening to the radio for a few months. Now, whenever I turn on the radio, I just get this whirring sound and the speakers seem to be picking up the engine revs. If I step on the gas, the whirring gets louder. Let go and the whirring goes down. Kind of sounds like you're tuning a CB radio. Any idea what might be wrong and how to troubleshoot?
Thanks,
Harry

I think all speakers. There's no music..nothing but the whirring.

I think the CDM is source of the problem. In general the CDM process the audio signal to each amplifier. If one speaker makes strange noises and the others are working that indicates that the amplifier in that speaker is bad. But with all of them making noise seems it would be caused by the CDM. I would check the connections at the CDM. If they are good I would contact the dealer or repair shop as I would think everything that was repaired would have some type of warranty.

So if loose connections are ruled out, then it sounds like the CDM could be causing the whirring and the front right amp could be the reason for not having sound from that speaker before the whirring began. The amps have lifetime warranty and the CDM still has 4 months remaining. I'd better get on it right away.
