I noticed in the "ZR1 Records" section that a new endurance speed record was set by the VW W12 Coupe prototype. Being a prototype, does this unseat the ZR1 record for a production car? If so, it is amazing that it took 16years and a v12 to beat it!!

Hello from Switzerland,
The ZR-1 record stood for 11 years and 6 months, because the new record
with the VW W12 Coupe was set on October 13th and 14th 2001. I think it
was not fair to do it with this purpose-built car and they should have done it
in Fort Stockton and not in Nardo, because to set records is much easier
than in Fort Stockton. But the FIA says it is ok, so we have to accept it.
Nevertheless I am proud to own a car, that is able to do what they in these
cold days in March 1990. Sorry, my English is not so good.

Since the car never went into production was it really a record breaker? I say NO WAY!!! Unless they build 5000 of em and put out on the roads all over for the world to see then what kind of "a production" is that I ask??? SMOKE AND MIRRORS:thumbsdo:
If the common man can't afford one then it is hardly a production ride! And I don't see the new Z06 being up for this task! Or any other ride for that matter. 5,000 miles @ 173 mph ave. is like 10 Daytona 500's back to back!
I say the KOTH IS STILL THE KING:thumbsup: ZR-1: The regular guy's affordable "All American*** Sports/Muscle Car".
*** well mostly all usa made!

Looking back I guess that the "Mormon Meteor" wasn't a production car either. However, it is amazing that in this day and age with all the technology out there, no other true production car has gone after this record. Maybe someday our beloved ZR1 will get the respect it deserves for what is was, and what it is today. There are alot of cars out there now that are a tad faster and a little quicker, but the amazing thing is that the ZR1 can still hang in there!!

Hello and welcome to the forum Franz :handshak:
Your English is fine and much better than most Americans Swiss. ;)
You may want to vote in this poll if you haven't already and add another European ZR-1 to the list. It is good to hear from our brothers overseas.
