I just bought a 1990 unmolested ZR-1 #0827, from second owner, 17,335 original miles, original tires, original window sticker, Red on Red.
I've been looking for a R on R that I could afford for years, but this is the first one with low miles that I could afford.
I generally like the "Stock" corvette look of the corvettes that I buy, however I'm not against low cost enhancements that improve performance under your foot when you want it.
Can anyone fill me in on the Haibeck chip, cost, installation and benefit of using it.
It arrived......

I think it is a very worthwhile addition. Here is the info: http://zr1specialist.com/HAT%20Web/products/Calibration%20AYBKG.htm
Best thing I had done to mine. Gets rid of that ridiculous "1-4 shift" and turns both fans on at 200 degrees. My car ran upwards of 230 before the chip and now never gets over 205.

I agree fully. It was the best thing I did for my '90 several years ago. Mine ran hot too until I installed the chip, and getting rid of that annoying CAGS (1-4) shift is a real plus. The chip will also allow the engine to return to idle quicker on coast down when clutch is disengaged. Since the chip advances the timing and also lean out the mixture at WOT, you'll also see and improvement in performance and in gas mileage. As for installation, it's a breeze. The chip comes with complete instructions including pictures. It will take you but a few minutes to install. The benefits to the Haibeck chip are significant. I just installed one in my newly acquired '95. Believe me, the Haibeck chip is well worth the price. If you're going to do a chip, don't buy one from anyone else.

x2 on that ......;)
I have four 1990 and one 1991 corvette (One is a 1990 with L98 and four are ZR-1s). Some are modified and a couple not. ALL are running Marc Haibeck chips

No question, buy it. Great benefits for very little coin. Plus, it's a mod you can install and still have your car appear completely "original".

Although my '91 had less than 16K miles when I purchased it, it had been driven only about 400 miles in six years and needed some attention. Marc installed new Accel injectors, converted the A/C, refinished the original exhaust system, repaired the quintessential header stud leak, rebuilt the speaker amps, CD player, replaced a weak headlamp actuator, repaired the parking brake, and installed his chip, gaining the lower operating temp advantage and dumping the CAGS feature. He also did a couple other things that I have forgotten...
It was well worth the time and $...Marc is the best..

Thanks for the input. After I calm down a little I'll order the chip.

The 4-1 CAGS fix by itself is a easy fix, disconnect the connection off the transmission or get the dummy plug from mid America or one of the others.
