the good news I can drive my car again! The bad news is I can't use the power key. I think I've tracked the problem down finally. Should have it fixed in a few weeks

BTDT x2! So, I feel your pain!

I lost an entire driving season while porting the heads and repairing a burnt valve. That was the bad news. The good news came indirectly by way of an oversight boo-boo by the shop doing the valve job: It lead to an article for the HOTB regarding verifying necessary pre-loading dimensions for the lifters.

Then there was last year's cockpit error just over a year ago resulting in my little crash. The bad new is I didn't have the car repaired until almost a year later. The good news was, at precisely 10:30 AM on May 10th this year, the car was fixed. 15 minutes later, Ami and I were on the road on our way to the Mountain Run 2! (Everyone needs to put the Mountain Run on their "BUCKET LIST"!)

Glad your Z is on the road. Like Pete told me once when I was getting depressed about the car being down: "Once you have it all together and you whack that throttle the first time, you'll forget about all the troubles it took to get you there!" He was SOOOO right about that!:-D

While the Rossa is a very beautiful car there is no aspect of it that will compete with the ZR-1. Okay the 12 cyl exhaust note of the rossa is awesome.

I wouldn't go that far. It's much more f an experience to drive then the zr-1

How so? it is so slow compared to our cars.

the sensations the car sends to you, sound, the feel of the wheel flexing in your hands as you drive, the sound of the shifter pinging as you shift. I actually like his 328 more

I absolutely love that 328 it's awesome to drive. Simple, no ps no abs dog leg 5 speed, great sound, light weight, reliable, plus the roof comes off. helps that it was the first ferrari i ever drove

So what was the problem?

Really? Depends on how you define "slow" I suppose. Early TRs are 390hp and 3300lbs more or less, and late 512Ms will have 440hp and about the same weight. Very comparable, and flat out they will run right with a ZR-1 with a slightly higher top speed. They don't have the same torque, and are definitely not drag racers, but on any kind of circuit I doubt there would be much between them if any. They are definitely not slow.

It's a very different experience. My 308 is such a sweet car to drive, much lighter on its feet than the ZR-1, with a sound and tactile feel that can't be beat. But the Z so visceral in a completely different way, that I just can't compare the two. I love them both!

FWIW 328s are going for quite a bit MORE than early TRs now!

So what was the problem?

code 61, low vac pressure. Check valve or something under the plenum. Going to rip it apart and figure it out next few weeks

This is an 88 TR with headers no cats and an exhaust. The thing screams, it doesn't feel as fast as my 90 but we all know that doesn't mean anything. It's really fun to drive, but I like the 328 more.

Now,that's some good news! Your car has been ailing for way too long,Kev.
Just glad you resisted the urge to sell it.

took her out for a few spins tonight, seems the problems are gone. What was wrong with it? no idea and I don't really care. We changed pumps, wires, coils, vac lines, made sure everything was connected properly. Very happy right now

Had a small hickup, after filling up and parking the car fired it back up and didn't have any fuel on the gauge and the reserve light was on. by the time I got to the car show, about 30 seconds, it was fine. fired it up and drove home, still fine.

Well....that should be good enough for operation of the secondaries....I would check your secondary Operation with Plenum In Place......

You have vacuum leaks but secondaries should be functional anyway with that cycle time.

Marc checked them last year at carlise this way, they were fine. I think it's before the actuators.

My friend and I were driving to a car show doing 80-100 all the way, stopped to pay a toll and all hell broke loose. Car fell so flat I thought I blew the clutch. not 30 seconds before I did a top of third gear run and it ran flawlessly

I would love to get my hands on your car if only for a few hours :p
I need a ZR-1 with challenging issues :D

Not to be to cute here but your ZR-1 is fine and very fixable if you can do 80-100 for a period of time with no issues. Definitely a keeper

I just dint feel like ripping it apart again right now. Waiting to hear back about a few things. Year 7 now with issues. I feel more comfortable with it so it's not the issue it was. Just boot to get it running soon

Maybe time to start reading FSM - trace schematic for fuel gauge circuit, and see what other functions are POWERED on that circuit, and which have GROUNDS integrated on that circuit.

it's definitely a vac issue. looking at changing out the vac reservoir now
