Phase 1 of Yun's (Second Chance) LT5 installation was completed today by an enthusiastic group of ZR-1 owners. The event drew ZR-1's from Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and New Jersey.

Here is a photo of the assembled group at the WMD garage (L to R: Scott, Rich, Nelson, Bob, Jim, Glenn, Charlie, Darrin, Yun, Kevin, Tom, Ron, Jim, Dempsey, Tina)

A thing of Beauty! Yun's 380 cubic inch LT5 arrives from the WAZOO Engine assembly site in Northern Virginia:

Moving the engine to the car. The car is on a four-post lift which is raised slightly off the floor to allow the engine hoist legs to roll under:

Tom, Rich, Yun and Glenn positioning the LT5 over the engine bay. Dempsey is under the car to guide the engine mounts onto the frame:

Lowering the rear of the engine to allow aft movement so the crank pulley will clear the frame rail in front of the engine:

Here are some of the ZR-1s here for the day:

After the engine was in the car, we began Phase 2 to install all of the wiring, the hoses and front end accessories and the drive train.

Stay tuned....

You Cats make a southern boy jealous. I'm with everyone else, I'd love to have a group like that around.

I live 8 miles south of Memphis and I've only met one person, in three years, around here with a ZR-1.

Looks like it was a great day, hopefully I can get together with the group some day. Just to have all those ZR-1's in one location and get to work on one or more, what a great feeling that would be......

Last night (Monday), after the last few items, and having to replace a radiator hose,...

The 380 cubic inch LT5 started like a champ!!!!!

Cranked for about 10 seconds and fired up. Good oil pressure and good sound.

Yun drove home last night and called from the road to say everything was fine.

Congratulations Yun.

Rich

I'll start:

Some of these are because the engine was pulled by someone different than the install team.

Do bag and ID everything that you take off or disconnect.

Don't forget to bag and ID everything that you take off or disconnect.

Do tighten and or torque everything that you install or connect. It may be hard to get to it later.

Do keep a list of the sequence of removal and disconnecting things. The sequence matters on reinstallation. For example, the motor mount bolts are hard to get to after the headers are installed.

Pressure test the throttle body cover plate before connecting to the coolant system and filling with antifreeze.

During engine install you need to have access above and below the car. It may be really tight in your garage Rich. Also the engine comes in from the side unless you remove the hood (we did not remove the hood). Once again, it may be tight in your garage.

Did I forget to mention you should bag and ID everything that you take off or disconnect.

What can you say about Jim... First class is everything he does

Can't wait to see Yun's car in action.

Congratulations Yun and Wazoo Engine Install Team on another resounding success. Yun has done so much to help others, it is great to see the team get together to make his dream come true! I miss Wazoo now that I live in Colorado... Hope to visit at the end of June or July when I am in MD for work.

Thanks guys! Accidently running into the WAZOO gang led me down the road to this incredible reality.
Last Saturday, Sunday and Monday, once again, I was blown away by various individuals with talents and willingness to help me.
I use to do some minor wrench turning and get lost and frustrated by myself. What makes WAZOO so great is that there are so many with varied experiences and expertise plus mutual support that turns frustrating and difficult work into enjoyable social event.
May I say this entire process, taking my old tired LT5 and rebuilding it to bored and stroked motor THEN installing it back into my car, was not even thinkable with my knowledge, courage and ability. Because of WAZOO I jumped into it and experienced something never thought possible.
I thank each and all of you and hope to be able to reciprocate for many years to come.

THANK YOU GUYS!!!
