Good evening all,
I have recently purchased a 1990 ZR-1 Corvette. I have always wanted one and finally picked up what I thought was a good buy. It's not even here yet, but is supposed to be delivered tomorrow :)
I'll be honest, I'm not sure what I am doing with the car. I'd love to keep it, but to be honest it was an impulse purchase and with my wife and I having a 3 month old daughter, not the smartest thing I have done recently.
I do have an understanding wife who is into vehicles as well. Once I get it I will post a few pictures. I'm sure I'll need advice no matter what direction I go.
Thanks again and I look forward to meeting all of you.

Hello Tony and welcome to the forum. :handshak:
Owning a ZR-1 is not necessarily for practical reasons, but once you experience it on the open road, you will have little doubt as to whether you made the right choice or not.

Wow guys thanks for all the positive responses, I appreciate it!
Thanks for all the congratulations on my daughter as well! She was at her first car show around 2 months so we are training her early :)
I had the pleasure of talking to David on the phone a few weeks ago who is going to be an excellent local resource!
As an update I talked to the shipper and he is on his way and due in around 6. I assume with traffic thought it will be later so we will see.

Yep,that 90 definitely looks familiar,Tony.;) :-D I owned that car from 1997-2002 and enjoyed the heck out of it. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into that one,for sure. If you have questions about it,just ask away or PM me.
Chris,it's a stock displacement LT5 with a "few" mods. :p

Gotta love the brotherhood!
Can't believe you let that one get away, Clint! Love that Jeal plenum. Tony, a "few" mods means you're going to be spending a lot on rear tires and you're going to become familiar with the term "PermaGrin"!

Thanks guys and Clint I'm sure I will have some questions and I appreciate any help you'll be able to give me.
Right now I just have to spend some time getting to know the car. It should be fun and a blast once I get a few things sorted.

Thanks! One of the main reasons I bought it was because of the hood and wheels. It just has that look.

Try it like it is first. There is something really neat about a high Revving Naturally Aspirated Motor! If you have a "Need", the guys in your neck of the woods are making a neat & affordable 380 cube Stroker by offset grinding the Stock Cranks & using 4" Sleeves, no drama & complexities. Congrats & Welcome! Tim

Well Tony, I start my 3 week vaca today and planning on going out to the Vert (which is an hour away) just about everyday. There is alot to be done, but I am really looking forward to it. I intended to strip and repaint, but I don't think that will happen. I am anxious to get it back together and have it running once again.:)
Need to know more about your 74 restoration whenever you get time.
On a side note, took the ZR-1 out early this AM......what an absolute blast to drive......:-D:dancing:-D Tom

Thanks Kevin! Wonder what would make it so expensive? Maybe even a single? I'd build most of it myself. Tuning would be the worst part I'd assume.

Thanks Tim! I'm going to check the health of the current motor and if it's not good, I may have to go that route.

Well Tom you have me very scared now........I feel like we are related somehow as I am doing the mechanicals and a general cleanup on my 74. I had thought about paint but decided against it for the same reasons. Oh yea, I took my Z out this morning as well! First time I have had it out and I have more questions than answers :(
My 74 is an L82 car with air that my Dad bought in 1975. I actually picked it out. Originally red with silver leather, it's now black because of the Miami Vice Ferarri in the 80's. We painted it together in about 86-87. The car only has 64k on it and while it's far from perfect it will be pretty fun when done. With my daughter here i am done with high end projects. Good luck on your project and let's see some pics and info when you have time.

Was looking over some old threads and remembered your interest in turbo(s) for the LT-5.
Well how about a SC LT-5???
Check it out
http://www.zr1products.com/
I see that for some reason the vids on you tube do not load and when you click on the HD you tube shows them as listed private now.
I do think the project was a success and it ran hard and fast from the forum discussion on it all back in 2008. I do think he brought it out to the gathering at BG that year as well. I do not think many bought the solution from him however but it still was KOOL IMO

Thanks for forwarding that along! It is pretty cool no doubt. I didn't see any pricing or HP numbers.
Anyone remember what kind of power it made?

Thanks for posting that photo and info,Bill. That is a pretty sano set-up and looks a lot less complicated than a twin turbo install.
I wonder why it wasn't more popular?
LT5 does use a forged crank correct? Obviously a differnt animal, but some conventional SBC's will snap the crank snout due to excessive loading.
That looks like a nice tight kit.

IIRC,the LT5 has a 4340 forged steel crank so it should be stout enough.

Over coctails at one of the Gatherings in BG, I remember Dave McLellan saying the crank should be good for 1000 or so HP - FWIW.

Its very well supported with it's block design. Cap walk would be very well controlled I would think.

Good afternoon all,
It's been so long since I posted here that I had to create a new user name. Sadly I'm going to sell this car as it wasn't what I expected and I can't say I had great luck with it.
The intake was pulled awhile back to change the injectors, spider, coils etc. I need the plenum bolt torque specs so I can get it back together. I've looked and can't seem to find them. Can anyone help?
