Hi,
Please don't ask, it was NOT a good day, and I really don't want to talk about it, but I need a drivers-side airbag for my 1991 ZR-1.

Does anyone have any leads on where I might find one?

Any track guys who might remove it [air bag]?

Is there a cross-reference, as in would say- a 1991 Camaro airbag be the same?

Thanks for any help, I do appreciate it.

John W.

That's awesome!! I'm feeling a little better already. Since you asked, would you have the black steering wheel cover that splits open when the airbag deploys? Thanks so much for replying, let me know how you would like to handle the transaction.
Thank you!

Not sure how the steering wheel cover "splits" as you mentioned. I have a clean low mile ( 28K ) steering wheel if you want one.

The air bag portion of the steering wheel assembly is a separate part of the assembly. It bolts to the steering wheel, itself. When the air bag is deployed, the plastic covering splits open vertically as the air bag inflates.

I think its Horizontally, Brett

Also to the OP I think you are going to need a new clockspring, AB Sensor and DERM if you blew your Airbag. GC

You may be right, Daryl. I do see a vertical line in my cover. Might be a "cross" type split to allow the bag full access upon deployment. Hope I never find out the hard way....

Its been a long time since I have seen a picture of a deployed airbag in a C4. Seems to me the split is horizontal only.

It splits horizontally. Trust me on that! (I'm the one who needs the airbag.)

Thanks for the help everyone, and the additional recommendations on what I might need. I am working with a forum member on the airbag and cover, as well as the airbag sensors. I have a question, what is the DERM? I'm not sure I'm clear on the 'clock-spring' either. I do have a full set of manuals, but I would appreciate any insight. To those who have offered parts, I may still seek you out. I just felt the need to keep working with the individual who contacted me first.

Thank you all. Have a great Memorial Day weekend.

God bless America!

Diagnostic Energy and Reserve Module basically an air bag brain. You will need a new one. Somebody rebuilds them on ebay

The clock spring is what's in the steering wheel, it runs up the column then is under the wheel. Basically it's The wire for the airbag but it's designed in such a way that it can spin with the wheel like a spring.
