They run down all of the Z cars....Z06, ZR-1,ZR1....

They give the C4 a pretty good review...even mention the registry and Jerrys gaskets...kinda debunk the parts availability myth.

Jerry as well as the Registry can thank me for that one.I mentioned both of them when my car was in the magazine a few years ago.I cant pull up the article,is there any pictures of a ZR-1,LT5?If so it might be mine.

The Z part is right. I'm not sure about the R part. I was told that ZR stood for Zora Racing.

zora racer. zora's first z car was the 1963 z06. it was a factory racing effort meant for off road only. there were lots of things you could not get on this car and it was pricey. In 1969 zora wanted to get the lt-1 engine out to the public but because of the strike it was delayed. He was concerned that other auto manufacturers were turning out small block cars that would trounce chevrolets in trans am racing etc.. scca. so when the 1970 lt-1 came out, he made the first zr-1 package (zora racer) that basically was a stripped down lt-1 with heavy duty suspension, brakes, 4 speed only, etc... a car that would be very uncomfortable on the street but made for the track. In 1971 he also made the zr-2 big block ls-6 stripped down and loaded down with heavy duty pieces.

I guess gm decided to go with the zr-1 on the c4 since it was just about to come out in 1990 and still did not have a designation just (king of the hill). Of course our zr-1 came loaded from the factory so it was nothing like the earlier stripped down racers but the chevy brass liked the moniker zr-1 so there it is.
