TOP PIT CREWS GUNNING FOR KLEIN TOOLS PIT CREW CHALLENGE CHAMPIONSHIP

Braselton, Ga. - The drivers, teams and manufacturers of the American Le Mans Series aren't the only groups that will be fighting for championships next weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. For the second straight year, the track is site of the final round of the $100,000 Klein Tools Pit Crew Challenge.

Four of the best pit crews in the American Le Mans Series paddock will compete in the final as part of the Monterey Sports Car Championships - Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Racing, BMW Team PTG, Aston Martin Racing and defending champion Corvette Racing. The final (set for 11:30 a.m. PDT on Friday, Oct. 20) will consist of three phases of round-robin competition with the two teams with best total times advancing to the championship matchup.

"It is really exciting and an honor to be in the Klein Tools Pit Crew Challenge finals," said Dennis Chizma, crew chief for Petersen/White Lightning. "The competition has really been stepping it up so winning would be an extra bonus to us. The stop at Road America was good but we think we have some time left in us. We need to concentrate at doing our best at that moment. We're just going to keep our heads down and keep working on it. It's really great that Klein has come in to support the crews like this."

The Klein Tools Pit Crew Challenge puts the focus squarely on one of the most important facets in American Le Mans Series competition - the pit stop. A Klein Tools Pit Crew Challenge stop involves teams racing against the clock in efforts to complete a full driver change, simulated refueling and four-tire change before the car storms out of its pit box.

Preliminary rounds were held at Lime Rock Park and Portland International Raceway in July with the semifinal at Road America in August.
