I was talking with my Furnace repairman today, coming in, he noticed my Z. He didn't seem all that impressed and just said he knew a friend that had one and sold it.
After he finished, we spoke and I asked if he had one and he replied yes, its a 71. I showed my enthusiasm for an old vette and he went on about he had a ZZ crate engine in it and had the original engine in storage and that he had raced it in KC. I asked his quarter times and he said he uses a 100 squirt of nitrous and turns 12.4..........is it just me or shouldn't that car be quicker than that?? I thought my 93 stock will do 12.6??

Old cars are not very aerodynamic, the IRS of that time was archaic and not great for launching. Plus the driveline loss is pretty heavy.

Plus he could also be full of it.

he says it squats a bunch and won't raise the front tires off the ground, but he got a hell of a good 60' launch to get a 12.4..... I just thought that it would be in the high 10's or low 11's with that crate engine and nitrous.

Plus he could also be full of it.i had my 76 pulling 1.325 60' & 2.0's 0 to 60 times. 10" tire, naturally asperated, no trans-brake(I.R.S.s' don't like that) small block on pump gas, best ¼ time of 9.54 e.t. at 145 mph. that's fast enough with an I.R.S., it goes without saying that combo had years of dialing in. i can see that guys car with a crate engine & a 100 shot of sauce running mid 12's.
