Hey guys,
Just FYI, there's a brand new, in box windshield on eBay. Looks like it has the small (later) window, so it's not correct for my 90. Starting bid if 500.
Good luck!

Well gents, over $1500 and it didn't meet reserve. Oh, I think we can talk about it don't you? I don't think any of us are going to be "sneaking up on it"! :sign10:

Don't know if $1500 plus is too much or not. If I replace one of mine with a NOS or regular C4 glass, it's not original anymore anyway. Plus if you spend 2-3k on a glass like this, could you drive the car for fear of rocks? Don't know if I could. Just my 2 cents.

I also agree, I have a regular C 4 window in hot AZ, no problem

My windshield is flawless. How can I tell what windshield is in my car?

it should have a large radar cutout infront of the instrument panel

Just curious what is the purpose of the laminate. Is it like a heat reflective windshield they have done in some cars??

Nope, don't have that. No wonder my windshield looks like brand new!

Yes the ac pump was undersized due to the space available due to the LT5. To compensate GM developed the solar laminate windshield. The cut out was designed to allow a radar detector to have a clean shot.

I still don't know why we couldn't get Pilkington to produce more windshields. Do the regular ones work? Yes. But the ZR-1's had a special windshield that had a function. Twenty five years after they made the first windshield, I would think technology has progressed to the point that they can eliminate problems such as delamination. How many Chevy Venture's and other vehicles have windshield like ours without problems?
Yes, there were only 6,939 ZR-1's built. I would think Pilkington could easily make a business case to produce these. I don't know what a standard OEM (not aftermarket) windshield costs. If you only expected 1/4 of ZR-1 production owners to buy windshield x $750 (make believe price), you have $1,301,063 in gross sales. I can't believe it cost that much to make them.
On Pilkington's site, under classic glass, they will even put on the old date codes and LOF logo.
I am sure sales would be much more than my example anyway. I just don't see why this is such a problem.

I guess the argument would be there a prob only in 5,XXX's ZR-1s left after wrecks and partouts. Its not a huge market of demand. Who knows maybe someday. Good thought although

I think the issue of making a modern copy of the ZR-1 laminated windshield is not production cost. The cost of storing and shipping the windshields all over the world one at a time is expensive and the breakage rate eats up any potential profit.
I tried it with 50 reproduction windshields. It is hard to ship windshields unless they are "crated" and shipped as less than full load freight, which adds a lot to the customer's cost and the shipper's expenses.

The windsheild in my 90 is almost perfect and it scares me to drive it. I've bought a replacement original that is stored.
I've though seriously about buying a stock non zr-1 glass and having a friend of mine tint it. Then have him layout the zr-1 cutout and trim it away. I may do this and see how it turns out.
To me the cutout is a character trait of the car that has to be present.

Let us know how that works out. I've had that on my mind, too.

Will do.
I'm confident it will work, they even manufacture a blue/purple tint shade now that would mimic the stock look from the outside.
Only drawback would be lack of LOF insignia.
