Just thought I share my recent experience with getting new ignition key blanks for the 94. I went to the dealer and had my original key VATS pellet measured and then ordered the appropriate keys online (American made), because I felt the dealer blanks were a little pricey @ $36. Ordered two blanks from ebay with the correct code for under $20.
Turns out that the keys were duds, one the dealer could not even measure the resistance, so that would not even start the 94 after it was cut, the other turned in the ignition, but wasn't getting the correct signal and would not start, and ended up shutting the system down. We kept trying, but no luck, so ended up being there a half hour before I could get the Z started again. At least I know that the VATS sytem works.
Ended up ordering the keys from GM, (also got a discount $22 a piece), went to a lock smith, got the keys cut in 10 seconds, for $3.40 and they work.
So moral of the story, try not to go for the less exoensive option, especially with something as important as the ignition keys. Lesson learned....Tom
