Have of course a ZR1 with dual 3 inch pipe and magna flow mufflers from previous owner. Headers with no cats. It is very loud and cant stand the deafening sound and drone anymore. I have just purchased dynomax racing bullets for right off the headers and dynomax ultra flow ss mufflers for the rear. I hope this combo quiets it down a bit. Any thoughts? Thank you!

If it were me I would purchase the Corsa system......if cost is a concern look at the OBX system on xbay for $500. Either system should quiet the drone to a reasonable amount.

Yup, Corsa.
Best overall suppression of resonance (a tiny bit still at 3200)
HQ stainless steel.
Easy installation.
Great looking tips.
Reasonable $
Is not glass pack so will last.
GREAT SOUND when at WOT.

Follow what mike100 and myself have done using Z06 tips and actuators. Less expensive than Corsa, bigger diameter, weighs less by eliminating the resonator.
Badass sound when you want that.

The Z06 exhaust NPP valves work well with the UltraFlows. That's what I currently have on my car.
You can see hear in this video how the NPP system mitigates the sound. At cruise, they do are great job at eliminating drone. Also significantly less expensive than Corsa, larger diameter, less weight.

Thank you all for the posts
Those of you suggesting Corsa have you guys heard what they sounds like from the outside the car at WOT.
Sounds like a broken down lawn mower, fart can.
I like the old school big V8 rumble.

Pete I can respect that opinion. But my car is far from sounding like a riceing fartcan. I get it.... its not loud and throaty
Its the offset of being able to have a normal conversation with my spouse while driving
I had B&Bs and they made my ears bleed. Great for a track car.. Not so much for a daily driver.

I am kind of a broken record on this, but after 20 years of trying five different systems on ZR-1s, probably 15 years with Corsas, I finally tired of the steady loudness and switch to a stock 95 system with cutouts for racing or just scaring children and pets. I like it his way so far, quiet when I want, a little open when I want some rumble, or wide open, although with our Chicago weather I haven't had it off the lift in three months. --Bob

Yah, I use to have cherry bomb mufflers when I was 18.
It's nice for about 10 min.
Now I like to be able to hear other things sometimes to Corsa allows that. Quiet until WOT is nice.

I like my Corsa as well - excellent build quality and not overly loud. My every day grocery getter is F150 Raptor with Borla cat back also nice sound and build.
If you want quiet save your money do what Bob (warp ten) did, I would replace stock resonator with X-pipe keep OE mufflers save thousands and sounds great at WOT.
Again have you guys heard a Corsa w/headers no/CATS at WOT from outside of car.

We have a neighbor with Borla on his Dodge diesel. We all call him "tank" when he goes by at 4:30am on work days. Just wonderful.

Yes, and it's not a very pleasant sound. Been there, done that. Wife didn't like the sound and I finally grew to dislike the "loud".
Current setup is headers, no cats, and 96 LT4 exhaust. I'm considering adding cats and swapping the resonator for an x-pipe but until I hear that setup I'm unwilling to make the change ... I don't want it any louder than it currently is.

So C6 Z06 tips and flappers work well on B&B 3" system? I am buying a ZR1 next Saturday in Denver and driving it back to Dallas. Car currently has the 3" B&B system and the current owner says it is really loud. I hope 12 hours of droning doesn't drive me crazy!

Pete is using the NPP actuators grafted onto the B+B tips and mufflers. Myself and BobG are using the complete Z06 tips/actuators grafted onto a set of
DynoMax UltraFlow mufflers. We "think" that the shape and the double wall thickness of the Z06 tip contributes to reducing the resonance level of the exhaust.

I also prefer the C6 tips. Are they all the same? Standard C6 looks like the same tips but are single out from muffler into two tips. Maybe these tips could be cut off the y pipe and used with the vacuum actuators and B&B mufflers? Is there a source for just the actuators? What diameter pipe is used on the actuators?

You can't buy the actuators separately, at least not from GM. Piersburg is the source for the Z06 actuators but they are OEM and Piersburg distributors here in the US don't carry them. It would be interesting to find the source Billy Boat uses for their Fusion system. There are places in Taiwan that make very similar actuators but they don't sell onesey-two sexy quantities. The standard C6 tips look similar, but ur better off scoring a Z06 set with the actuators integrated already. Takes a bit of patience and research to find a set but I really like mine
and w NPP controls that mike100 or myself have put together, it makes for a really adjustable system.

Everyone's ears are different, everyone has their own tastes. I have heard a car with headers no cats, and Corsa and I tend to agree that it is not my favorite sound for exhaust. My favorite exhaust sound is on Bob G's car..period..
I have not heard another like his ever.. BUT I don't know how the drone would be to me inside the car. Drone and loudness are subjective. Unfortunately it seems there is a history in my family with tinnitus, so my ears are sensitive to some different levels of noise, it sucks.. so I have Corsa WITH Cats and headers. In the car I am comfortable and it does not bother me. I honestly think the cats help make the Corsa sound a bit better outside the car, but still not low and throaty. I love low and throaty but HATE the booming drone our cars produce, my ears cannot handle that
I have heard Pete's and Dominic's cars, both sound Awesome, but I cannot take the drone for very long (yes guys, I hear the drone with the flappers closed too) While the drone it cut in 1/2 or maybe more than half, it still bothers my ears. With the sensitivity of my ears I have to get something that is comfortable to me.

Jeff,
We'll have to see if the drone is mitigated by the NPP controls. Don't forget in Pete's and my car, you have cams in the mix too. My system is the same as Bob's except for the design of his X-pipe which could make a difference I suppose.
Now if I could just find a damn seat so I could drive my car.

LantanaTX, if the car has 4.10 rear gears doing 70-75mph you'll be fine.
Try and keep the RPM's above 1800.
The NPP flappers do not eliminate drone just cut it down to maybe half.

Drone can be mitigated in a few ways. You'll find that if the motor is running "fat" or rich, you'll get more drone. It also happens when MAP is
increasing as in a slow acceleration or going up an incline. When decelerating or steady pedal the motor is very quiet. The NPP valves are very good but the issue has been that they vary the opening w vacuum. That's why mike100 and myself have been playing w ways if keeping the valves closed regardless of variation in the vacuum signal.

How about the db level in theaters nowadays? I have to cover me ears on the previews. I'm afraid they'll start bleeding. In between the previews when it to total silence I like to say out load "they need to turn it up a bit".
I do absolutely agree, it is very much subjective. I don't drive my car so much for others to hear outside. I drive it for the seat-of-the-pants feels. I had enough drone(resonance) in the 70s to last a lifetime. :-D

Hey guys, As mentioned above, I will be a new owner next Saturday when I pick up my '91 with the B&B cat back on it. My last car was a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire that I put a Mercedes V8 into. In the Crossfire world we had problems with drone. After some experimenting, I ended up with an awesome sound and no drone. I used an Ansa single in dual out muffler. it wasn't overly loud but got everyone's attention because it sounded so good. It actually sounded like a sporty Ferrari which made sense since Ansa is made in Italy and they were an OEM supplier to Ferrari. Just thought I would share this in case no one has thought of Ansa. I used my own custom tips welded to the muffler.

Wives are not all alike, THANK GOD!!:) My Ami asked for side pipes for her 69 chrome bumper Vert to "Make it more rumbley." With the top down & cruising - it is loud. Step on it and you can shout and the person beside you wouldn't even know you made a sound!
But, back to the SW X pipe, I believe they offer (or did for a while) an X pipe with a "cheese grater" liner, intended to quiet drone a bit in lieu of the resonator the X pipe replaces. I wonder if anyone here has tried that version, and if so, what their thoughts might be?
Power Sticks makes a (3") stainless steel bullet type muffler, again with the "cheese grater" lining.
Initially, I intended to replace the (nasty) stock 90 resonator with them, but I sold them unused to Lee, after hearing Pete and Bob G's cars with the NPP and hearing the really nice "big V8 rumble" (and noting their track times at the strip(s) too!). But, I remain curious about the sound they would have made.
