I just relocated from Japan back to Hawaii less than 2 weeks ago and yesterday I received a surprise call with a job offer. It seems I will be moving to Concord, CA and right now plan to live in Walnut Creek if possible?
Any Registry member from the area? If so, I'll keep you posted as the plans get solid, but if all goes well I will be moving to the area within a month and it would be great to get together with some members in the area.
In addition, I will need emissions guidance and hope I can eventually get the car to pass the tests and registered (I could not in Japan).

Craig, I am about hour and half south of your new digs. Got two 90's ZR's. PM me and we can talk, I went through hell with one car getting it to smog in Calif. Bob

Bob,
Thanks for your note and offer; greatly appreciated and I hope I'm up to the challenge of Calif smog (have even more regrets about the Stage 1 cams now). I realized that Coupe89 (Todd) is from Livermore and also nearby.

If you can register the car out of Calif. in a state that doesn't require smog you would be better off. Calif. requires smog from 1976 and newer cars, and enhanced smog in selected areas, San Francisco bay area is a enhanced area. Need to run the car on a set of rollers at selected RPM's. Always do a pre-test to make sure it will pass before the final test. If your test shows the car is a gross polluter you have to go through hell to get it registered.

Okay, thanks for the info and I'll look into it. I thought only active duty military could do out of state registration and already retired. That would be great if I can keep my Hawaii registration and plate the entire time in CA and not have to mess with smog testing.

Hey Craig,
Welcome back to the CONUS. Just a "head's up" ... Calif. might end up being more strict with emissions than Japan. You need to get a job offer in Georgia ... just sayin'

Hey George,
Thanks and yeah, I think CA might be the only state in US that might be as strict or worse than Japan. I tried to apply for jobs all over the world, including your neck of the woods and no such luck. I think that is a nice area of CA so looking forward to it despite being very high cost of living....even more than Hawaii. Take care and Mahalo for your thoughts. :handshak:

Thanks and I won't celebrate just yet until I get the official offer and travel orders in hand, but looking forward to it.
Now I'm worried if you have not passed smog. Funny thing about how this turned out when I sold you my smog stuff, then had to buy it back, and now coming to your area where I really need it. So much to learn about this SMOG stuff. :handshak:

I hope that works out and if so, I will do the same. I have two sets of manifolds/factory cats, but both are old.

George, Check out Diablo Valley Corvettes, in Concord, CA. Great Club with a few ZR1's.

Thanks for the tip about the Corvette Club in Concord (where I work). I arrived over the weekend and first day of work today. I pick up my new toy shipped from Hawaii (2003 Ford F-150 Lightning) tomorrow so I'll have my first experience with SMOG testing to get that registered. The Z is in storage at parents for now in Hawaii until I get my home and garage resolved. Take care and Thanks!
