Title says it all....

my 1990 has polished cam covers and the 91 project car does too....

What color would you do the top end....I had wrinkle black VHT on the 90 that did not stay on the covers....plenum peeling now too...so time for PC.

Thoughts...pics?

1990 is black with gry int
1991 is white with black int

If the cam covers are polished, I would polish the plenum as well.

Polish the plenum w a splash of red in the depression on top. Red for the lettering.

Lee,

How about a black chrome?

I actually thought about that one.....might ask my PC about it to see if it holds up well.

My supercharger is black chrome powdercoat.
Are there any other colors under the hood?

You know, I really like Hugger Orange; I think that would go good with a black car.
Do some photo shop colors to see what you like.

Its a subjective subject. I would search out the motors you see here and other places. I still have pictures of Deshlers Callaway with the polished motor... it pops. The only drawback is you have to keep it polished and getting into certain areas is kinda tough to do.

Here is some gel coat on mine from the mid 90s. I am amazed at how well it continues to hold up after 15+ years and a 100 K+

How about "brushed" aluminum on the whole engine, instead of the usual mirror polish.

I like the idea of accentuating the all aluminum nature of the LT5 by using no paint at all. But the shiny, although beautiful, polished finish mimics chrome, which IMHO looks a little too flashy in the ZR-1 engine bay.

Would a brushed aluminum finish be as difficult to maintain as a polished one?

Hey Ted, pardon my ignorance, but what's "Gel Coat"?

Red powder coat on an LT5? "It's an infamnia!"- Don Zaluchi in "The Godfather" Pt1.

Gel coat is what the guy called it when I bought the car in 03. When I think of gel coat I normally associate that term with boat hulls. It appears to be like a super tough powdercoat. All I ever do is wipe it clean. It has never discolored, peeled, or faded and it has to be at least 14+ years old.

Well Red Wrinkle PC done, plenum goes back tomorrow for another coat....the wrinkle turned out to be very difficult to get a consistent texture. Obviously this is everything just sitting on top the engine, not bolted down.

Interesting. Just wondering how that would look with the cam covers done also, with black lettering.

I like it a lot, but I would polish the flat on top to match the cam covers. Maybe leave the red crinkle finish in the inset part. I think that would provide better contrast. JMO

My plan is to do the red, maybe crinkle, on the cam covers and silver for the plenum with red lettering. Lots of choices out there!

I think the coolant pipe was a bit much. My recommendation would be to try polishing the coolant tubes, the top of plenum, and air horn.

OR, go gloss black w a polished top of plenum.

It just doesn't go with a tired engine bay that has 146K miles on it....too orangish...list goes on....driving it, not losing more time to taking it apart
and redoing it....

It does look a little pale. Was it a crinkle finish? Maybe another coat would change things?

Painted runners Toyota Silver and top of intake is polished. I have gone through 3 repaints since 1998. I do like your red crinkle intake, but you need some polished items to enhance it.

Greenwood cowl and yes it is functional. Is that what you are referring too and was it addressed to me?

I love the Pennzoil yellow but it would not look that great on my red car..the red with the stainless fastener package is awesome!

Went to the Barrington Cruise night yesterday.....Mr. Ugly was a big hit. To top it off a new C7 and a C6 Z06 were having a little engine revving contest.....a few people gathered around to hear the car start up as I left....so I gave the throttle a few blips.....and lets just say there was no doubt the old dog still had the loudest bark and bite.....

Fun....

I was at a car show last fall and they parked me on a side entry to an open area. These are the same guys that put me in the ZR1 class with a '13, '12 and 2 '11's. On both sides of me were two 3 story buildings. When I left I gave them a couple 7k revs. This with headers, no cats and the Corsa. They probably won't let me back this year. Too many C5 and C6 yuppies.

By the way only the '13 beat me out. That ticked them off
