View Full Version : Radiator Hose Clamp Markings
We have had several requests over the last couple of years, for the original radiator hose clamps. Virtually all of my stock was acquired in boxes of take-off parts, so I don't know which year they might have come from.
Now, I have a customer needing the clamps for a specific year model, but I don't know which markings were on the different year models.
So, I need to access the knowledge of the Registry and build a database for the NCRS guys. If your ZR-1 still has the original spring style clamps on the radiator hoses, please look at as many of them as possible, 6 hoses/12 clamps, & poat the year model, which hose and the number or letter code stamped into the clamp.
example of data needed
1991, Radiator Outlet Hose, Stamped "V"
1991, Radiator Inlet Hose, Stamped ....
etc. Note, may be a letter or a number stamping.
Thanks for looking and posting. Here's an example clamp.

Well, at least it will be narrowed down to only 2 model years. I will take any data I can get and reduce it when possible. Thanks for looking.

Wouldn't NCRS have this info? If they don't, then does it matter? I'll check mine this evening Jerry.

The ones I could see without mirrors or inspection camera's on my 90 were all stamped with an "S". The clamp on the bottom of the t tube had a small hole where the letter would have been stamped. Most of the clamps up high, in the line of sight were black, the out of site clamps were galvanized colored. -Steve

I am not familiar with NCRS. One of my customers wanted clamps specifically for the 1991 and I do not know what that might be. To him it matters, so I am just trying to accomodate. Thanks for looking.

That's interesting. I've never paid a lot of attention to the radiator hose clamps before, but sure didn't know worm gear clamps were used in that application, especially randomly.
All of the other hose clamp applications I have examined, have been marked "CANADA TRIDON ALL STAINLESS".
This is good info that will someday provide useful information for restorers. Keep it coming. =D>

Jerry,
I'll check my NCRS manual to see what they say about the clamps and report back.

That would be great. Thanks. IF I remember correctly, NCRS checked the hose clamps for the correct date stamping on C2's. So, I'm just drawing on that recollection & assuming the stampings on the ZR-1 clamps may be similarly important.

Any thoughts on the reasoning behind a single, odd clamp?

Jerry,
According to the NCRS manual.
"The 1990 ZR-1 Corvettes with serial number 00019 to 00913 have radiator hose clamps of a worm gear design. All the radiator clamps used are of the same configuration and manufacturer." It goes on to talk about the manufacturer "Tridon", country of origin is Canada. As part of a recall the worm clamps were replaced with spring clamps due to leak conditions.
It also says "The 1990 ZR-1 Corvettes after serial number 0914 and all 1991 ZR-1 Corvettes have radiator hose clamps of a spring ring type and are gray or gray-black in color."
I do not see any notations regarding markings on the spring type clamps.
Both my 1990 ZR-1 #2124 and #2529 had the spring type clamps all around.
Hope this helps, John

I think this might have been one of the clamps provided in the service replacement hose and clamp kit.

94-95 NCRS manual also states:
"All 1994 and 1995 ZR1 Corvettes have radiator hose clamps of a spring ring type and are gray or gray-black in color."
No mention of letter or date codes.
