120k miles, Black on Black, $15k.

Paint looks OK in the pic, but we all know black is a hard color to maintain.
The cat isn't a huge problem, headers and aftermarket cats are the answer.
The hard part is getting it past the Smog Nazis, and although it is possible/legal to do so it could possibly be a pain in the azz.

you can get a manifold for that. Just have to see what kind of maint. and repair has been done to it. if he kept after it, a manifold-ectomy and a set of O2 sensors wouldn't be too much trouble. If he didn't do much, then it could be in need of a couple of grand in repair parts.

I think this car is sold. I was watching the ebay auction - no reserve, winning bid was $11,700. Good buy for someone.

That's odd.
The eBay auction ended yesterday.
The Craigslist posting went up today.

Looks to me like a failed sale maybe?

Interestingly enough, it's technically illegal to buy a used catalytic converter anywhere in the US.
There aren't any "New" old stock '90-91's cats available from any dealer in the country.

I believe you are mistaken, it is only illegal in California since 2008. There is technically an approved replacement catalyst on the roster (the same as for the LT1 I think), but it isn't going to weld up. You would just be using the catted manifold you had purchased as spares in 2007...

or repairing your car out-of-state in a legal fashion while on vacation...

That is kind of funny, I am in West Sacramento this week.

At 15k, with the mileage, it looks like a fair deal....at 11,700, if that's what it sold for, it's a pretty good deal.

Hard to tell about the paint from the photo. It's been my experience, from looking at a lot of cars, that if the photo in the ad shows the paint wet, then the paint is rough or worn at best. My '56 Merc ratrod with very worn out original paint looked pretty shiny when wet after sitting in a barn for 30+ years.

I'd be curious to see what the interior looks like after all those miles. Might be ok, if the worn out, torn, and broken parts were replaced as needed.

I'm lucky enough to live in a place where the cat thing isn't of any concern unless it's clogged and killing the power and fuel mileage.

Oh, and a heads up for anyone selling on ebay. All someone's doing when they win the bid is securing the option to buy the car for that amount. Vehicle sales are not binding at all on there. Pretty frustrating if you pay $150 in fees just to have someone come out and not buy the car. You can do that with CL all day long for free.

Please explain. Thanks, Tim

Tim,
What I wrote pretty much explains it. When you list, you pay your listing fee.....sometimes it's cheap, depending on what specials they're running, sometimes it's around $50 depending on options, full auction, buy it now, etc. You pay that no matter what, whether it sells or not. If there's a winning bidder, you pay the ebay final fees. On vehicles, the fee is $150 when the final value is over a certain amount (I think it's $2000, if I recall).

On vehicles and real estate, bids are non-binding. This means that a winning bidder has just bid for the option of buying the vehicle at that price.

Pretty much everything else falls into the binding category, such as car parts and other items. Which means that a bid is a binding contract and the buyer must pay.

It's pretty bad for people that list their cars truthfully, but that's the way it is. From personal experience and the experiences of others I've talked to, a lot fewer of the "sold" cars on ebay actually end up as completed transactions. I've had more than one car end up like that and several friends have too.

Here's ebay's policy and I've confirmed this on the phone. Basically, according to several phone conversations, the winning bidder can decide not to buy the vehicle for any reason, from valid (the car wasn't described truthfully) to bogus (the buyer just didn't want the car) despite the policy that ebay says that buyers remorse isn't a good reason. Unfortunately, because it's non binding, the buyer doesn't even have to give a reason. Or even contact the seller (my last car that "sold" on ebay).

Here's their policy....

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-vehicles.html

Basically, and this is from the folks at ebay themselves, having a car for auction on ebay is just another form of advertising to attract and generate interest in the vehicle, but someone bidding on it doesn't really mean anything since the bidder is under no obligation to buy the car.

Overnight from eBay sale, to new listing on C/L the next AM, is pretty quick for a non-paying winner deal to fall through.

Shill bidder?

He sold a '76 4 times, 2 times re-listing immediately...
