If I understand correctly, the clear top was an option on our cars. But,there were two different tints offered, either a Bronze or Blue,,correct? Were both tints offered as an option on all years or did certain years only offer one tint? My White 94 only has the painted top and I was wondering what the correct tint clear top was offered that year. For those of you with a White/Red ZR-1,what color tint is your clear top?

I would suggest the dark blue, not the bronze for summer driving

my 92 came with a bronze top . that I call the brain cooker, the blue one is sure way better
My '92 came with the clear blue top. I plan on adding some dark tint to help keep the hot sun out.

Is there an ID on mine, to tell if it's OEM?
My VIN number is stamped in the corner of my blue top. It is on a 1991. The window sticker shows that my car came with a painted and an optional blue top.

To answer your question about the colors, according to the Corvette Black Book for 1994 MY there was 7,064 (blue tint/RPO code 24S) and 3,979 (bronze tint/RPO code 64S). All of the ZR-1 model years have both blue and bronze as an option and more blue that bronze by almost double depending on the year. If you have the build sheet for your car you can see what color option your car came with or just get what color you prefer. If you don't have the build sheet you can order it from the museum: https://store.corvettemuseum.com/services/buildsheet.asp

I have both a green painted and a blue transparent top, the dual roofs option shown on my window sticker. But I have a quesiton about the VIN identification on the tops. I can't seem to find a VIN on either top. Were they still doing it in 1995 and if so, exactly where would it be? I will look again. Thanks--Bob

The tops if OE should be etched and it would be on the front of the "drivers" side rail and NOT visible with the top on the car. The last eight digits of the VIN preceded by a 1 would be in that location. I today feel that I've determined the significance of the "1". It's in another post but I believe it was an identifier for the car line the top was constructed for. 1 - Chevrolet
A GM VIN 1G1 on a VIN would be a Chevrolet identifier.

The leading "1" in the VIN = made in the USA.

I don't believe that's correct on the top "identifier" - yes that's correct for 17 digit VIN configurations but I believe the top "identifier" would actually be the third digit of the VIN which identified the car line. I mentioned that in the other thread.
1 - Chevrolet, 2 - Pontiac, 3 - Oldsmobile, 4 - Buick, 6 - Cadillac
I based my thoughts on this LT1 engine information that's been around for some time and it makes sense so that law enforcement agencies can use that derivative to further verify vehicle identification when required.

Note the comments in the lower right for the engine VIN derivative.
The ZF also uses a similar vin derivative and the 1st digit is also a 1 - I'd say that rules out the US reference and might reinforce the car line identifier. Here's a '91 from the Registry:

Old post, not sure if this helps at all, but my white on red '90 is bronze.
Cheers!

Hey Phillip!
Great to meet you guys yesterday...so glad I decided to head up to the show and so blessed to be a part of the Brotherhood!
The answer is a resounding YES, I do want to repair my top but I'm in no hurry; other financial priorities at this point. I'd sure appreciate info on a local company that can help. Again, no hurry, though.
One other quick question, at the risk of highjacking an old thread: we spoke about the AZ emissions exemption yesterday...do you know if I can just walk into MVD with a copy of my Grundy collector policy card and get registered without the test required?
Thanks again...look forward to seeing you again soon. It would be cool to see Lorne's and my white on reds side by side, too!

I have a film on the inside of my acrylic top very similar to the one shown here. Not sure if it's still available but it works great and was $20 from Mid America.

good to meet you
have Grundy report the collector policy to AZ state, then yes go there or try to buy on line, I was able to buy 5 yrs on line
I will try to find phone number for top, they will need to replace plexi, then you will have choice of color, mine came with bronze from factory, but bought the dark blue for AZ sun
Lornes car is a Canada car
that film on inside works good deflecting the sun, well worth it, good product

I finally checked my blue glass top and I do not have a VIN stamped on the top frame like the picture above. The window sticker says the car came with the blue glass top so I guess maybe mine is a replacement? Or does anyone else with a 95 have a transparent top without a VIN? --Bob
