View Full Version : low oil pressure switch

OK i'am stumped low oil pressure switch located right side of motor in back
of oil filter housing. I was able to remove the el connection,but how do i get
that switch out. area tight as it looks like a thin wall socket might get it out.
Not sure what size socket to use at this time. I'll pick up the new switch on
Monday so i will be able to see what size socket to use.
So far i have removed the oil cooler lines , oil filter , and center wheel
housing. With that out of the way it looks like i could get a thin wall socket
into the tight opening .

I pulled out a housing I had laying around and looks like you can get a normal 3/4" socket on the sensor no problem.

Hi Scrrem,
No problem found the answer by going to solutions by Dynomite.
He shows a pic of oil filter housing with the oil pressure switch light on
dash ( low oil pressure switch ) The best way was to go to FSM oil filter
housing section and follow instructions to remove oil filter housing.
Got the housing out and had to use a 1/2 drive socket to remove the
defective pressure switch. I do not believe that i could have removed the
switch with housing in the car ( hands to big ). The auto parts store has
a new switch for me, i"ll pick it up Monday.

Hi John,

Of course there is more than one way to do it.

I like to remove the center wheel house panel. Then jack up the right side of the engine. The trick is to get a "sensor socket" when you acquire the sensor. The sensor has a special shape, for the tool, sort of a shallow 12 point shape.

Well the job is done , but of course the lower samco hose (water pump )
stock hose clamp did not seat the first time. so took it apart 2nd time and
got the stock house clamp to seat correctly , no more drips.
While i had the oil filter housing out i installed a 3/4 in long pipe with a 90
deg. fitting. now the switch is out in the open and easy to get too. And of
course it lasted for 120xxx miles before failing. so now i'll never? have to
rpl it again.
While i was in there i replaced the coolant with 50/50 mix of NAPA and
distilled water plus one bottle of water wetter. Removing the left coolant
hose and filling it until it ran out of the left cooler housing. Started the car
i had coolant flowing into the tank and added more until it was full. I used
a temp gun while running motor , checked both coolant housings and read
temp of 175 deg temp. on both sides. Went for Test drive everything
checked out ok.
