looks like sledgehammer went for $221K in 2004

I was their in person, all cars were in need major detailing. Not sure the bids on the sledgehammer was real monies or not. It stopped at 400k and the bidding ceased cold at that, the asking was raised to 500k but not sure it ever hit it.

Gotta be very careful at big auctions as such!

I was their in person, all cars were in need major detailing.

I could guess as much when seeing the cars on tv. Just the way the light hit the cars as they rolled across the stage, it looked like they needed a good compounding and wax.

The Sledgehammer's passenger side gill panel looked crooked and loose.

Just an observation to anyone selling their car...I just don't understand when sellers are wanting top dollar for their cars but don't go to the trouble of cleaning them up to make them look their best. Why? Why not?

To expect top dollar for a low mile 1995 ZR-1 of around $40K plus, let alone six digits... if I had those cars, they would look pristine!

Aside from these particular cars and this auction, we all have seen ZR-1's offered for sale with bad, fuzzy, pictures, dirty engine compartments, dirty floor mats and interiors and the owners have exaggerated estimates of their worth. ...Hey, at the very least, paying someone $150 for a good detail will go a long way!

Maybe they want to leave the original "patina" ?
I've heard it said that cleaning the "patina" off lowers the value.
Cracks me up every time I hear that.
I'm with you. At minimum clean it up a bit gezzz :nono:

The side gills are the air intake for Sledgehamer.

Just got back from Mecum auciton. the red with blue interior 1990 zr1 twin turbo speedster was stunning. it had 13k miles and had huge back tires 345's. Extremely beautiful car. sounded great, very healthy. It has 766 hp. It was clean but could have been more polished up. The 1991 zr1 speedster LM twin turbo was stunning as well. Same horsepower as the red one but was also a no sale. It had a top for the speedster that from the back looked like a gtp car. very healthy sounding and looks very exotic. Those lt5 twin turbos must be a blast to drive. The c7 full monocoque body car was no sale at 150k. This is a full blown race car that actually raced in daytona. It has a 640ph 383 aluminum motor and is all carbon fiber and kevlar. It is sparse inside but it weighs nothing. they were paying more for a mustang resto rod pig than this full blown exotic race car. I feel that those callaways should have brought more than they did. the white twin turbo that was in playboy and once belonged to the hagen daaz family was certainly not great. It was down right ratty. It had 92k miles and looked like it.

the red 400 mile 1995 had the windshield so bad that you cannot drive it because you cant see through it. It must be replaced if you want to drive it. Nice car but trashed windshield with delamination. It was bitterly cold last night and was not able to see all the cars I wanted.

the roger judski cars were waiting for today. 40 degrees is bitterly cold in south florida because of the humidity. everybody including the northerners were cold.

the sledgehammer looked like it hasnt been touched since setting the record. it ran very rich with lots of black smoke through its super trapp mufflers. It is a stealthy car with very subtle modifications for aerodynamics. NCRS show was good.. the usual ncrs types talking about correct screws and paint finishes. I saw a couple of zr1's that were parked in the corvette parking so they were driven to the show. One was a white 1990 automatic that is obviously a race car. It was all set up and just by the looks of it can run a good quarter mile. the other one was a 1993 burgundy anniversary car that looked good. they had zr1net registry stickers on them. One of them had Lee's mercruiser plates on the module covers.

Hi ED
The 1990 white ZR-1 belongs to me John Becker. I must have missed you
as i walked thru the swap meet with my buddy Paul ( He owns the ruby
red ZR-1 ). That car has just a little over 12k miles ,just about everything
on his car is org. including the tires!
yes the white ZR-1 is set up for drag racing. It runs 11.77 to 11.87 @ 117
to 120 mph. Best time was an 11.58 @ 120 in April , 2010 .
Sorry i missed you

Hello John,

I saw your z parked their and it looked like it really means business. I really appreciated the 6 inch front rims made from the original front rims. I like the auto for drag racing purposes. I'm sorry I missed you guys but I had a feeling you were registry guys by your stickers on the windows. I think there was a nice showing of c4 zr1's at the show. Your 11.58 time is great considering it has no power adder. I was glad to see you guys enjoying your z's and parking them there. I also saw two 1995 top flight cars, a polo green with tan interior and an admiral blue. there was a discussion about the windshields because the guy with the 1995 polo green car had a windshield with the wide opening for the radar detector instead of the smaller opening the 1995 had. he bought the car when the car was 2 years old. It has 7k miles and has never been in any accidents etc.. it looked like his windshield was a 1990 style. the polo green 1995 owner claims he has never had it changed and it was original. A corvette engineer said that sometimes when they know of a problem with a part, they would have spare windshields from previous years and use them in place of the defective ones. It is known that a lot of 1995 cars had problems with delamination. Engineer said that probably at the factory they installed a 1990 windshield on the 1995. It was serial number 205. Anyway that is food for thought.

The Sledgehammer had been gone through and was running great before it went to Barrett-Jackson.

IMO, the overall collector car values are over inflated and due for another market correction.

It would be nice if the ZR-1 market corrected, upwards. These cars are a heckuva value, right now.

I agree! I have always drooled over the Competition Yellow 1990 ZR-1. I can't believe only $25,000 for that car.

Something to consider is if a car sells at auction for $50,000 it costs the buyer $55,000 as auction companies usually charge a 10% fee.
