Hello all...
I'm getting close to taking the plunge of purchasing a ZR1. I'm looking at the Doug Rippie DRM 500 "Green Monster" featured in Vette magazine. Does anybody have the history/perspective on this car?
Thanks
Rich

Also may want to contact CJ_ZR1 on here. He was about to purchase that Z a couple of years ago. He has a good history on it and a good number of pictures if I remember correctly.

I also was interested in the car, went to look at it, drove it a year ago. I don't recommend paying near what they are asking and they don't seem interested in selling. Car has been "well used", smokes, seems power deficient for what it is, and has had NOX sprayed a few times. Windshield non ZR-1 along with lots of mods, which is fine, but will need work and won't be worth 22k unless you spend 10k to get it refreshed.

Can you tell my opinion?

I haven't subscribed to Vette magazine for years. What car are we talking about?

Breck Alberts old car.....? Or the one for sale by Jerry's Chev.?

I drove to the Gathering in 2010 with Mike Gilbride, who owned 91 #135 at the time. Mike traded it in on a C6 and no longer posts on this forum.

His old forum ID was MikeG and I know that Jerry Brick, a Registry and forum member knows Mike well.

I think that is the car you are talking about.

Yes, Mike used to own this car and was probably the last owner. I met him several years ago at "Hot Summer Nights" in Sioux Falls. I have his card. Crewdog, if you are interested in contacting him, pm me, I will give you his number and email.

Mike would also know who had it before him. I think his name was "Jeff", who was also from South Dakota.

And Jeff got the car from Scotty White.

Hey, is this a tight knit, well connected "brotherhood" or what?! It takes more than "just a car" to get these kind of results!

The Green Monster is alive and well!

The car went through one more Non-Registry owner since this posting was active. The owner prior to me in 2015 had the engine rebuilt by Larry's Engine & Marine in Tuscon, AZ and around that time the driveline was also rebuilt.

Since I bought the car in March the previous owner was gracious enough to work with me financially to get all the remaining defects with the car fixed. I focused on the interior and cosmetic issues and I left the hardcore operating gremlins to be sorted out by Marc Haibeck. I also put a complete Corsa exhaust system on the car which sounds wonderful. Marc gave the car a thorough going over and a revised clean bill of health.

I drove the car the C4 Gathering this year and it performed flawlessly. The car is an absolute blast to drive and I couldn’t be happier.

Great to hear you gave your Monster a detailed mechanical & cosmetic new life. And that it's a blast! That is the sole purpose of a proper ZR-1!

Wow! That is a great picture!

In a prior post, I forgot to mention that when Mike Gilbride owned the car, I got a ride in it.

I also got to see it in autocross action a few years earlier when "Jeff" owned it, out at the Windom, MN airport.

Lookin' good!

Lookin' good!If anyone has any other pictures or information about the car l would appreciate hearing from you. As these cars get older these internet posts seem to develop a kind of historical record through our memories and photos.

Hi, Mike,
Did you get all the paperwork with the car? There was a box of papers, receipts, articles, etc. when the car was for sale at Jerry's a few years ago.

Awesome - I'm glad the car has been updated. I love the color combo!

Yes. I got a huge box of papers and pictures. It is very complete and a treasure trove of documents. I have not even read all of them completely yet.

I did not find the invoice of work performed by DRM. I asked Doug Rippie if they had copy of the invoice, but he said probably not.

In reviewing the receipts over the life of the car, it's amazing how many clutches this car has gone through. Including the Chinese knockoff Marc Haibeck just replaced. It is a shame these parts are marketed for these cars and just don't hold up.

What I would like is some history or records on how the car was used. There are pictures of the car with two different sets of full race decals with sponsors, very different seats, and harnesses. Scotty White once owned the car and raced it in some capacity; autocross, or perhaps Showroom stock? That history is what I would like to learn more about.

Every car has a story. Some more interesting than others. It what makes every car unique.

I agree with others. Car looks fantastic.

You've probably already done this, but I got a few Google hits for "Scotty B. White" "Corvette ZR-1":

I’m not normally a fan of the aqua green. Your car caught my eye at BG tho. Very nice. I assume this is it. Enjoy!
