Congratulations on the sale of your car. When you purchase the C5, you will enjoy it. Different experience, but still a great Corvette!

Sold my 02 Vert in order to buy the ZR-1... So I went the other way that you are going. The C5 is a great Vette but a different animal than the C4, esp a ZR-1. Since you're coming out of a Z...I'd say look for a C5 Z06...Unless you get a first year model at least you will start out with 405hp:dancing

Have fun my Friend!!!

C5Z06's are a nice car & easier to make go fast. The ZR1's are a little more "raw".......it's a hard decision!

I have always had a c4 in the garage since 1986 (86,90,94) and also have a 04 z06 (and a few others) last summer i sold my 94 383 supercharged c4 convertible and was planning on stepping into a c6 but still needing a c4 in the stable i went with a 95 red z. now i have to wait for the nice weather to really enjoy it.:iroc::iroc::iroc::iroc::iroc::)

Sounds like you have a game plan. My wifes 03 50th is what we use most in the summer. You won't be disappointed in the performance of the C5. Like other of our members had mentioned dont go far you may come back later in life.

Congrats on the sale.....to match the performace you sold, it will take a Z06 to excite you.

I sold my TR Z06 to purchase a ZR-1. Still have a MY Z06 in the garage, still something about that LS motor that excites me everytime I drive it.

This morning I took the ZR-1 out for a spin......pound for pound their very close in performance. The two cars are very different in handling though.

congrats on your sale. It is tough these days to buy and sell. Just sold my c5 last week. Replaced it with my 1990 Zr1. Two very different cars. My C5 just didnt seem very exciting to me even after I boosted it to 525 rwhp. It is a great comfortable car with many amenities, HUD, full complement of gauges etc.. wide seats..all said... decided to sell and keep my Zr1. Hope you have a better experience but... experience tells me you will be back. Good Luck.

I was hopeing convertible or coupe so can easily take top off. Z06 would be nice but then can't open top. Manual of course after these almost 15 ZR1 years can't think automatic transmission anymore. :dancing

How much weaker C5 feels after ZR1? 350hp vs 375hp doesn't sound so much. However my ZR1 had headers, random tech cats and Corsa exhaust, Haibeck Chip and Fidanza flywheel.

Some forums say that 2001 manuals burn oil.. Is this true..

That's the awesome part of a Z06.....you have never felt a more rigid Corvette.....ever period. No squeaks or rattles.

Some forums say that 2001 manuals burn oil.. Is this true..

There was an oil consumption issue with the 01 LS6 which was a Z06 option only. Not all owners experienced the issue, Chevrolet did replace rings in some LS6 engines in 01 under warranty. The issue was resolved in the 02 LS6 with a ring tolerance change.

It is not that the LS feels weaker.....it's a different torque curve altogether. My suggestion is to drive a standard corvette and then drive a Z06. Compare cars that are apples to apples or condition to condition.

It won't be a difficult decision, or at-least is hasn't been for me on the last two C5 Z06's purchased.
