Draw was done for 2014 WC in Brazil next summer. US was drawn into group
including Germany/Portugal/Ghana. Its been dubbed The Group Of Death.
Portugal has one of the greatest footballers on the planet right now, along w Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo. Adding some irony to this is Jurgen Klinnsman as coach of the USMNT. He was on the German National team that won the WC in 1990 and coached the Germans for the 2006 WC. The US nearly defeated Germany that year and the Germans went on to place third.
