Thanks for everyone's earlier advice on the car. I took the plunge and brought her home Thanksgiving Eve! She's a 1991, stock, 20k miles, and 335s on the rear. :dancing The dealer is a car aficionado and did quite a bit of work already, including replacing the injectors, fixing the ABS light, and installing a new driver's seat track. Being 22 years old, she still needs some work but runs great as-is. From the stickers on the rear windshield, it looks like the 1st owner was a Registry member in the late 90s. Now for some pics!

Thanks everyone! Everything about the car's still new to me and trying to find time when I can continue to learn what she can do. It's a pretty different and awesome experience so far! The engine just sounds and feels raw when you start it up and rev it, but sounds like a jet engine when all the injectors kick in. :dancing My wife complains that the engine's too loud :D and won't go with me for a long ride until I get the radio repaired.

I've never had a car where I've spent so much time just staring at it. I've popped open the hood on the Z more in the last week than all my cars combined!

Oh...I was wondering if anyone had tips on how to get out off the car? I'm 6' and find myself having to push myself up using the side bolster of the seat, which I'd rather not do. Maybe it's finally time to lose a couple errr..dozen pounds...

Hi Bob - Yes. Black inside. I think I like red a bit more, but black will do just fine.. :-D

I just fall out and hope someone will pick me up....Actually one hand on the door sill to push and the other on the windshield post to pull.

That's it, like he said. And don't put any downward pressure on the steering wheel. The steering column tilt mechanism is weak, and will break.

Ya, I use the side rail and steering wheel, but I have notice once or twice the steering wheel slips down over the tilt mechanism.... not good! So I will try the windshield and rail next time! Thanks for the tip. Want to save the car forever....;)

335's! Lotsa' sticky back there!

Yeah...lots of sticky which will cost around $1000 for a new pair. Debating whether to go back to 315s when it comes time to replace them, which are around half the cost!

Welcome!
I'm 6'1 and 225 and getting in and out is a challenge. I have the technology to fix that sitting in my garage right now just waiting for me to have time and a nice enough day to do it....
Got a set of '95 Sport seats and wiring harness to put in there. They don't have the extreme side bolsters and switches in them like the 90-93. Got tired of the "fall in, climb out" routine, and also the bolsters cutting off circulation in my legs. And I also got tired of the wife complaining about the seats....;)

I've tried the one hand pushing on the door sill and one hand pulling on the windshield post approach a few times and it works great (aside from the door sill creaking a bit)! Now what's the best way to get into the car other than falling in?

Congratulations!! Your zr1 looks great. I am new to the club also having bought mine close to thanksgiving. Mine is black on black 1990 with mods. I truly love these cars and find myself wanting to drive it more and more. Unlike my c5, it would sit months and i wouldnt touch it. It is also black on black with over 500 rwhp but it just is not as much fun as the zr1. the zr1 keeps you engaged and the sound of that motor is intoxicating. I have heard that lots of guys on the forum might have had faster cars but the zr1 just holds the owners interest and is more exciting to drive. My car is modded with 400 rwhp so one day I will rebuild to 368 and port the heads. everything else is ported on this car. remember, owning a zr1 is not just a car.. its an event in your life. enjoy your car.

regards,

Best way to get in for me is butt first being careful of the side bolsters as they tend to wear very easy than swing my feet in.

yes side bolsters will wear out. I use the side that sticks out and I also grab the roll bar mine has in the back and lift myself. not bad. I am 6.3 inch tall and 230 pounds. I am not small but I love the seats. when I am in I cant move around so its great for driving.

It's probably not the same for all body types. I'm 6'1"/ 180lbs. with a skinny butt.
My technique is:

- Put weight on the right hand in the upper middle of the seat. (this is the key move).

- Right foot into the footwell (easier to do if wheel is adjusted all the way up).

- Left hand on upper windshield frame.

- Swing your weight to inside the car, let right hand slide down seat letting elbow rest on console lid, as butt settles into seat.

- Left foot comes in.

I hope that's not confusing.
I can't believe we're actually discussing this.

Congratz!! Drive the hell out of it!

Rolling out with one hand on the sill is good, or swinging both feet out and then standing up (as Ami does) works.

Could be worse... I was watching "JAY LENO'S GARAGE" and he demonstrated getting in and out of a 90s vintage McLaren. The seat is centered over the driveshaft and the shifter is between you knees. Lots of crawling and crabbing into the seat; a real ordeal!! But, once in there the driver is like a tick on a hound!
