View Full Version : Lazy headlight door

The drivers side headlamp door does not close completely. I have adjusted the knob on top of the motor and it takes out some of the play temporarily but it comes back loose.
Is there another adjustment? Is something worn and in need of replacing?
Has anybody else experienced this problem?

More than likely its the 3 bushings inside the gear. They`ll be crumbled and almost turned into powder. They`re 1/2 inch in diameter and length. Take the whole headlight assembly out and put it in a good uncluttered work area. You can do it but its tricky. The passenger side won`t take half as much time with the experience you`ll have. Be sure and get 6 bushings as i`ve replaced about 5 sets and always found both sets to be in about the same contition.

I noticed some yellow granular residue under the motor on the passenger side but that one is working OK. I guess from your post it wont be for long. Where can I get the replacement bushings? Ecklers? I wouldn't expect GM to have anything for a 20+ year old car.

Ecklers, Madvet etc has them. Suggest buying enough for both sides

I watched this video, basic tools. Did mine in under 90 minutes including removing and replacing the assembly in the car. I am not mechanically inclined.

"Pumpman" where does the handle come from? My family has been in the pump business for three generations. Pumps as in water pumps for your well.

Thanks for the help. The video was just what I needed. Have the tools and two sets of bushings.

Replaced the bushings in both sides over the weekend. Everything went smoothly. Took maybe 35 minutes each side. Headlights work perfectly now. The video was a great help.
