VW owns the record with a prototype car. It will never see production. Although the FIA doesn't recognize the category as being production/purpose built, for the ZR-1 to be 2nd on the list is quite the accomplishment. Remember the car that had it in the first place had a aircraft motor on it.

So back to the questions, is there ANY current record in any catagory that the ZR1 holds except hardest chevrolet production car to get parts for?

No, it's held by Mercedes, Audi and VW

Okay this is the obligatory "nooobie" Z owner Q's!

Those cars were real production ZR-1's before they were delivered to those guys? I know for saftey and a few other reasons they have roll cages, racing tires & air dam extensions....that's obvious from the photo.

I guess what I mean is if GM said "no" to the project, those cars would have been on some chevy dealer's lot, right? They were not built as "race cars" at the factory?....not that BG looks like they have any room for that stuff any way....the CxR guys don't do their thing at the BG plant, or at least I didn't see them when I took the tour.

If I remember from Heart of the Beast those guys had to strip out all the "fluff" and prep those cars. They were not purpose built from the ground up to do this attempt. At least that's what my comprehension of this story is, that these were real regular production ZR-1's before the attempt was made.

Read the story about the record run in "The Heart Of The Beast"!=D>
VW had a purpose built car :thumbsdo: and I think it's much easier to race in
Nardo (South of Italy) than in Fort Stockton, Texas!

Most parts may be hard to get, but I found a nifty spot that has just about all the parts I would ever need, including about 20 orignal tires.

In case you are wondering, Chris, it's your house.

Keith,

Wrong country, VW is not a Japanese car. I don't know what you could replace with ricers. :icon_scra Did you ship the diapers yet?
