Does anyone have an Innova 3140 Can OBD 2& 1 Scan Tool?
I recently picked one up at a local Auto Supply Store, It works fine for my 01 C5 OBD 2.
But on the 91 ZR-1 I get a communication cable error. I called their Tech Support and they suggested to input a different year, I tried various years and the Scan tool will download from the car, some of the earlier years will show some DTC's, 93 and up show no DTC's. The Tech didn't seem to know which year would be correct and didn't seem to know much about the LT5.
The only year that the Scan Tool won't talk to the Car, is the 91 MY.
Anybody have any experience with this?

Interesting there BF; can you get screenshots posted?

What are you looking for in a screen shot? The error screen or one of the different MY screens?

Tried 92, 93 same result, it scans the car and says it downloaded successfully for every year except 91...

Is it possible your ECM or CCM has been changed? That would explain why it reads a different year. A way to confirm is manually ground pin B for the ECM and G for CCM and see if you have the same results (codes) as the scanner.

I read your post first and thought you checked multiple year cars but reread and I guess it's really only a '91 car and you "fed/entered" various years while attached to the same car.
Did it display any error codes for the various years you entered? For the various years what were they? Year and code. I ask because VIN J were different than any other OBD1 codes.
You can do "ALL" of the diagnostics using the DIC and jumpering A & G in the ALDL connector. Both CCM and ECM and various functions of the CCM.
I'd do that and compare codes. Here's the very straight forward procedure:
http://tech.corvettecentral.com/2011/01/c4-diagnostic-trouble-codes/
Since the device came from a "local supplier" (like that buy LOCAL) and if it's the same device they use to do courtesy scans for their customers I'd borrow theirs and compare results. Do they have another device on the shelf?
Have you ever had a Tech1 or another device of any type connected that DID work? Silly mention but I recall reading I believe in a FSM that the CCM won't go into diagnostic mode if AC fuse is blown or missing. Your code reader I'm sure wouldn't do CCM codes for an OBD1 car but thought it worth mentioning.
My thought after the first read was that maybe there was a wire population problem with the ALDL. You mention 'teasing" it with the wrong year and it does something so that I'd guess is "out"!

The first time I tried inputting different Model Years, I got some different codes on each year. Right O2 sensor Lean, Right O2 sensor rich, Low Oil temp and a couple others I don't remember now, basically all minor. Reset any that came up for each year. now there are no codes regardless of MY.
Maybe I will have to trip one of the sensors, unplug something, and see which MY picks it up correctly????
Yes, the chip has been reprogrammed, but I don't think it should effect the way the Code Readers work. Maybe some of the Guy's more familiar with reprogramming would have some insight?
