I posted this over on the Corvette Forum also. I know most everybody here is on there as well. My 1990 is chipped but stock otherwise. If/when I add a 3" Catback system w/X-Pipe do I need to have my chip updated from Marc? Thanks.

Craig,

Will the cats be retained?

Craig,

You including headers?

I dont think so I think he is going after Todd's 3inch B&Bs and X pipe he has listed for sale.

Yes, talking to Todd but even if I don't get his I am doing the exhaust in the near future. Will be keeping the cats at this point, not doing headers yet. Going to build in steps so I can actually catalog the power increases.

1. Catback w/X-Pipe.
2. Headers minus Cats.
3. Intake Porting.
4. Intake Cams w/head porting.

Will also do 4.10 gears in there somewhere and I will do the required updates to the Chip as needed.

If thats the case for step 1 Then the answer to your question is No. when you hit 2 3 4 yes you will need to mod the chip

Not to hijack a thread, but I've been wondering about this same question also. I am considering doing headers when I replace the exhaust to save labor. I'm looking at the same mods as the OP and also in phases.

I'm getting some back fires now, so I figured a reflash would be part of the process. I also have 93 octane here so that may be something I can include in a reflash.

Thanks for the info guys. Does anybody have a sound clip of a B&B exhaust on their ZR-1? Not crucial to anything, just thought I would ask.

Hey on second thought, what if I was to go ahead and delete the Cats now? Stock manifolds with cats deleted? Reflash the chip? More importantly is there any benefit powerwise without the headers?

On your '90 the manifolds and the "cats" are an assembly on each side. You can't eliminate the "cat" without doing something to replace the manifold also. It's not cost effective to use the '93+ manifolds and "cats" then later do the headers and eliminate the "cats". You might as well just do it "once" and settle all of the fitment issues, the tune etc. You'll end up much happier and I'd think it also cost effective to just do it "once" and be done. There's much less of a chance of fitment issues also.

That is what I was thinking but I thought I would ask the question. I emailed Marc also and he said no need to reflash until I do the headers. I am thinking Christmas/New Years time frame for the headers and the reflash. Exhaust has been procured, can't wait for an upgraded sound and a little performance to boot.
