The LT5 is not forgotten by Mercury Marine. Using the knowledge & experience gained during development & production of the LT5, Mercury now offers a modern version of the LT5 concept for automotive use. Mercury makes no bones about it...... The new automotive 4 cam 32 valve (a/k/a QC4V) engine is descended from the LT5!

Fond Du Lac, WI. Just a nice 180mi ride from Chicago. Maybe MM would be interested in a Heritage Day with the car that started it for them? Anybody know someone at MM?

P.

Paul,

That was my thought. If they attribute their Performance line to the LT-5, maybe that would be a cool promotional thing for them. Sort of a homecoming thing. It would be neat trip we could do similar to what they did in Stillwater.

Any thoughts?

an LT5 belongs?

It would need space like the Falconer had for the V-12

In 1990, General Motors approached Mercury Marine to produce the all-aluminum, 5.7-liter LT-5 engine for the Chevrolet ZR-1 Corvette.

'90?

I thought that conversation started in '85?

The listed weight is tremendously high- maybe that includes the outdrive unit, but i think the engine itself is around 900 lbs last time i tried to figure it out. It's not gonna be in a car anytime soon. Also they are north of $150k ea. $400k for a twin engine drive system- The boat would be the cheapest part.

Of course the unasked question is..."Would it fit in a ZR-1??"

I think the question needs an answer... (I just said out loud what everyone is thinking!:p)

The BBC fits in the C4, remember BigDoggy? This engine is a 552 inch DOHC, TT Mercury produced engine.

Might need a power bulge hood for this engine in a C4. The 1650 requires 110octane race fuel, the 1350 does not. 7.8:1 compression on both.

These are Mercury Racing engines, 1 year limited on pleasure application, no warranty at all on the 1650 engine.

Length (in/mm)26.69/678 (from back of block)
Width (in/mm)34/864
Heiqht (in/mm) 29/737 (from crankshaft centerline)
Weight (lbs/kg) 1720/782

Warranty

1-year limited for recreational boating

Mercury lists the M8 drive as weighing 280 lbs, so that 9.0L DOHC engine is a heavy beast. 0-150mph in 13 seconds on the water is Miss Geico.

Yes it would.

Coil Near Plug or CNP on the LT5 revolves around the reluctor. Next time you get a custom LT5 crank cut, simply tell them to drop teh stock relcutor and cut a 24x (24 pulses per revolution) that looks exactly like this.
http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb373/Paul_Schermerhorn/EFIConnection/021.jpg (http://s1202.photobucket.com/user/Paul_Schermerhorn/media/EFIConnection/021.jpg.html)

You can get thee xact same patter by paying $20 and ordering
12552480 for the 24x reluctor and around $80 for the crank sensor - 10456248.

You can do this in a snap because custom cranks are so cheap and easy, and the integration with the LT%'s ECM is so simple.(sarc)

Looks a lot like the prototype Gen II LT5 plenum, except for the dual TB's instead of the single large one:

the engine without turbos, ecm..etc.. is $68,000. weights 600 lbs without turbos etc.. 900 fully loaded up. 1600 hp. I wouldnt mind that. if it doesnt fit, then it will be made to fit. we can just leave the clam shell hood off the car and make a carbon fiber cover to just cover the engine. quad came lives on!!
