Some people are gladder than others that I brought my Dodge Diesel PU... A few nights ago I had it broken into and the catalytic converter stolen. $6k worth of loss... Second time on the converter in the last six months ($4700 a pop...) and they only get $50 for them...

Welcome to Texas Ron, from a native, (one of the few left its seems.) You'll love it here. We still have some freedoms left! Oops! Did I say that out loud? LOL

Sorry about your truck, but once you get Texas tags, criminals assume you are armed and think twice.... or at least they better! In Texas, we don't usually call 911.

Got the truck back two days ago and they tried again last night. Luckily the dealer welded most the nuts this time or else it would have been gone again!

Welded most of the nuts Ron? Do you mean really welded? How will they come off if need be? - Bob

Dont they make some sort of cage that you can get welded around the converters that can be cut off without damaging the converter ? Seem to remember some discussion on this topic.

Are you kidding me? Is that a Texas thing? I haven't heard of that happening around here, but I suppose a big truck makes it easier to grab. That's just crazy.

Are you still in an apartment? Man that just sucks...

No, not just a Texas thing. Trucks are good for converters ($) due to ground clearance but gas (from tank) is a going thing too especially when prices spike.

That is strange.....I must lead a sheltered life there Ron :p
I have not heard of catalytic converters being stolen...wheels yes......

Not Catalytic Converters. Besides....is not Texas kind of easy going on Licensing (SMOG Checks)?
Catalytic Converters might be worthless in South Dakota :D

I can believe that crapola in CA.....I thought Texas was a bit like South Dakota .......

Did you say you cut the catalytic converters off before they steel them again?

RHanselman
11-04-2013, 10:40 PM
No,

But they do cut them out of some trucks. The Dodges are easy just six nuts to remove. The dealer tac welded 5 of the six on mine which deterred the thieves. Now the will have to cut... They will probably come back with a saw tonight!

They hit new and used car lots using power tools; some times taking them all!
They even steal them from scrap yards.
