You are not alone. The car is a reflection of who I am as is my wanting to a part of her life. Take the atrabutes away from me and piece by piece I will become something I do not want to be. Now if you take your car to bed with you.....

My bride doesn't care for the extra effort it takes climb out of the Z due to the seat bolsters and the sill climb over
She likes it even less when I exercise the secondaries... especially in 1st and 2nd...

considering I don't have the $12,500 to dump into the zr-1 to get it running the way it should again...considering the reworked ones are the only ones that seem to run right anymore....not much. my mustang gt which required no work this year, other then an oil change and fuel was still almost $800

What did you do....blow an engine :dontknow:
I take it you do not work on the LT5 yourself....seems to me there ought to be some guys in your area that can fix the issues without breaking the bank. $12,500 is a lot of money (for getting it running the way it should) and only a couple thousand less than what I paid for my 90'.

A hunting buddy of mine and myself took that 90' LT5 apart and put it back together again for less than $1,500 and that included a Wilwood Brake Upgrade. The Rustoleum Silver High Temperature Spray paint I used on the engine was not that expensive at WalMart.

Oh....except for the SW Headers and Exhaust...that doubled the cost of the Restoration ;)
There were a couple Bling items that cost also but I do not include that as a cost to get it running like it should.

been chasing issues for 6 years so I think i'm a bit out of my depth. Right now I have a bad ecm and a vacuum leak which means...didn't we cover this already? the $12.500 is to send it to Mark and paint the engine and while it's apart port it, and while you're porting it do heads and while you're doing headers...and while you're...and...and...and...

if I had a group of local guys who knew what they were doing to help me I'd probably be fine with tacking some stuff myself. But knowing me I'm going to end up with a pile of parts and my hands glued together like when I tried to build model cars as a kid.

If you have the TIME you can do it for a LOT less. Keep in mind Kevin these cars a becoming a little long in the tooth. Most of the issue(s) is/are standard C4 crap

I hear you however, How do you think I felt after pulling the motor 3 times. I thought it would NEVER end. i did not know you were having ECM issues as well......

When we were dating my wife helped me change the clutch in a 928, and I knew I had a keeper. You should have heard her in the Advance parking lot the other day. Some guy was complaining about his car overheating and she said "sounds like you have a bad thermostat."

His response?

"Uh, no. I changed the fuse."

And she rolled her eyes and we drove off.

btw she can't believe I bought a Chevy of any flavor, but she thinks the ZR-1 is very cool, and yes she knows exactly what it is.

As to the ZR - she loves the car, REALLY loves it when I jump on the go pedal - but she HATES the seats. Went on a 200 mile road run with the club last weekend and she was hatin it pretty bad....:(

So my girlfriend says she hates my ZR1. Anyone hear this before from their significant other, girlfriend, wife, etc?

There is a relevant jokeI heard originally related to a Jaguar, but I'll modify it for us:

A guy spent a lot of time driving and working on his ZR-1 and it was a perfect car. One day his relatively new wife came into the garage and said "You spend an awful lot of time working on that car. We never do anything, and I think you should just get rid of that car and spend more time with me".

From under the Z the guy said, "You know, you sound a lot like my ex wife".

"What? I didn't know you'd been married before," said his wife.

"I haven't been", he said.

I've been with my wife for over 40 years. When I started to date her she had a TR3 and looked down her nose at the greasy hot rodder that airbrushed weirdo shirts at the drag strip. But she changed her tune once I got her in the car, and she said, "Well, what WILL this thing do?" I showed her, and she was hooked.
Our first family car was a '69 Z28, then a split window coupe with a baby seat in the back.
Now she's a conservative Grandma but gets way more tickets than I do in her little twin turbo 335i, but doesn't like the "loud pipes" on the ZR-1.

Bob, I'm up to 37 years and Dede has been through all kinds of cars with me. Hated my 67 Corvette coupe when we first got married but loved the '67 Healey 3000 that we took kids to soccer games in, and a red '80 308 in which she used to get whistles when she went grocery shopping. Especially loved a blue '90 Porsche 911 C4. She even drove the '93 ZR-1 a few times but I don't think she really enjoyed it. Hasn't driven the '95 but because of repeated complaints about sound, after 15 years of Corsas I recently switched back to my stock system but with cutouts. She hasn't heard the cutouts open yet but likes the newly quiet car better. She also has a 335xi sedan which she loves and plans to keep forever--says it is her last car--and zips around town getting more tickets than I do. --Bob

I'm part of that lucky crowd too I guess. The wife loves the fact that I'm a car guy and loves the cars...she refers to them as "the girls". We did a road trip in the Z06 this past summer and it's got a slight drone at highway speed (due to my many mods) and she was completely content. She accompanies me on swap meets, car shows, and basically whatever else I do car related. The only ask is that I teach her about them...small price to pay in order to have whatever vehicle I desire in the garage.

Ami loves Vettes, and loved riding in my 95 LT1 car, but hated the sport seats (as did I) in the 90. First chance I got, I swapped the sport seats out for a set of the base 95s - one of the best mods I did!

Now we both love the comfort, and the fact there are NO danged bolsters to have to negotiate, and the ease of getting in and out makes a huge difference.

So, if your significant other happens to be female, remember she has extra width "down there" that really magnifies the discomfort due to the narrow seats - the 90 sport seats especially! Maybe changing seats to late mo standards or 94+ sport seats would change her mind about riding in the Z; it certainly did for Ami!

Yeah, I remember reading that somewhere too. Why would someone design for an "average" build, and disregard entirely for larger/taller people?

I don't get it. But, as Scottfab seems to say, [-XGM engineers designed it that way, so to do otherwise would be to suggest being smarter then them and ripping them out and installing something else is a "kludge" by any other name! :sign10:

Critics have bitched about the seats in the Vette since forever as GM tried to accommodate the more expansive derriere. I'd rather have a hip bolster adjustment than the side bolster. That maybe would make everybody happy.

Thanks much for the pics! So I need a 94-96 base or sport seat - or is there another that is close to that?

My 90/95 (seats) Z

Honestly, these 95 base seats are so comfortable (to me) that I never missed all the "geewiz - bells and whistles" of the sport seats. And, they are lighter weight than the sport seats - sans all that extra hardware and motors, and pumps. Made a HUGE difference in comfort and the getting in and out.

Yeah those look really nice! Will show these pics to the wife and see what she thinks. Gotta do something - I know that for a FACT.

The CC seats are a snug fit compared to the 89 sport seats so I doubt the people on this thread would want them. Seems like they want more room OTOH I can't wait to get the CC seats in the car. The CC seats are just what I was looking for. Not to mention with Brett doing things you know it will be done correctly.

So my girlfriend says she hates my ZR1. Anyone hear this before from their significant other, girlfriend, wife, etc?

Might be time to cut the cord...

Well my lady doesn't mind the car, she just hates when it doesn't start (no start issue). I have a friend of mine coming over this winter to do the Ford starter purple wire thing and hopefully that will end this issue. She gets really upset when we are out and it doesn't start, I just get the look enough said.

My wife will probably divorce me when I tell her I am buying a ZR1 with my best friend who is a girl . What a conundrum I have put myself in but I have to have a ZR1 . My wife has no interest in cars or motorcycles :( :( :(

Lol ,,, thanks for the offer . I may also have to leave the planet . If I install Mr Fusion in the ZR1 and hit 180 mph , it should do some serious poop and get me
Outta here

Does she have DOHC? Can she go zero to 60 pretty quickly? Is she seriously jealous of a car? There are a lot of key questions to inquire about when a female starts that line of discussion which may well be code for: you need to pay more attention to me, dear boy!

Like all things, it depends on how good SHE is and how her speed, cornering and maneuverability and the car's match up. LOL.

Sounds like a case for Dr. Phil - ...(coming back from commercial break)"So, what is it about this car that you would risk your marriage to possess it?"...(cutaway to shot of ZR-1 doing burnout)..."I see,.. we in the therapy industry call this "automotive sexual displacement syndrome". "And now we welcome to the show Tripler's "best friend, who is a girl"....let's give her a big hand!"......applause......

Ouch! But, out of curiosity, what was your bid? I bought mine from Jason (Vette2Vette) for $500 for the pair, just as a point of reference.

These were from fparts, set of black ones (which is what I need). They had 4k miles on them and looked brand new. PM sent...
I will check that vette2vette out. Thanks!

I got my Black fabric seats from fparts / eBay 9 months ago. Don't like leather. Set A/C on 'snow', and your backside still glues to the seat in summer on long drives.

Fabric was excellent. One hinge was broken P side. Now it's looking like forward / rearward drive P side is near end-of-life (and it's HARDLY been used). Need to see soon if they'll do anything.

I agree, there is a nice contrast there. I love the red interiors.
