Getting an additional ign. key. My question is, are the resistance codes the same for all 95 ZR1s, or do I have to get it checked before ordering the key ?

Yes you do need to check for the resistance value before ordering. The purchase is a wise move before you actually need it and you recall you've procrastinated once again!

Jeff - you've got your counts wrong. Never was 16, there was 15 for a very short while but the VATS value 1 was tossed and thereafter there are values 2 - 15. All ZR-1's can only be one of 14.

I recently went to the dealer with my vin number. They cut a new key based on their data for the resistance. Some say that not all dealers have the data.

OP has a "functional key" so there's no need for the service. All dealers use the same service for key code information. If one dealer inquired a VIN with results another dealer inquiry for the same VIN would return the same results. Are they adding the information from the previous services that were controlled by the "sales divisions" - don't know.

There's no assurance that a key code request will return anything but a mechanical production code. There are instances where that information is also NOT returned.

If you've a "relationship" with a dealer it might be a service you might request to check the results against your functioning key. It might be good to know that if you misplaced your keys that the information is a match to your key. The key code request isn't a "no charge" charge service and some dealers restrict the use of the service to their car purchase customers, service customers and legitimate verified lost key requests. They don't do "walk ins"!

It's much easier to carry a piece of paper with key information than a second set of keys. Stored in your "mobile device"? I don't think so BUT you'd be surprised at the repetitive requests from the same individuals.

I did a walk-in at my local dealer with my vin and proof of ownership. $40

Hey Brett - maybe you overlooked the SOME in my response. There are many Cadillac dealers that restrict the service to a car that was purchased from them by the person making the request. Not uncommon in large metropolitan areas.

I find it hard to believe you've no "relationship" with a local dealer. Perhaps you took "walk-in" a little to literally - had nothing to do with "mobility"!!

Nah, no relationship with them. Just walked in and showed the proof if ownership and asked for the right pellet and key. I did call them before hand though.

I don't normally use the dealer for my shop. Mainly work on 53-55's.

Cheers!!
