The preliminary results of the Crown Point Corvette Club 6th Annual Corvette Shootout has the FBI ZR-1s again winning the TEAM TROPHY!! :fahne::fahne:
I'll post pictures and some videos later, but Kevin Costello's 441 "gave it's all", turning in the fastest speed, the quickest ET, third place in the bracket racing (before breaking down), and combined with the efforts of Bob's 427 and Petes 'lil 5.7, the day was carried AGAIN! What a great day for the ZR-1s! (If I had Dave McLellan's contact info, I'd send him the news too (hint, hint!:dancing)
A couple years back, there was some scoffing by a few in the C5/6 crowd when one of the Zs came to the line. This time around, the stands were pretty quiet: didn't hear any smack talk this year...just an occasional "geeze!', or "Wow!"
What a great showing!

Way to go guys, surving up the LT5 humble pie to the C5 and C6 push rod crowd.
Phil,
The FBI ZRs fought valiantly on the battlefield. Needless to say there was some carnage. Most of us left rubber, but some were maimed and lost a 2nd gear, while the most heroic made the ultimate sacrifice giving up a main bearing. But in the end, we unleashed hell and emerged victorious.
Strength and Honor!

And as Maximus was carried by his men, so was Kevin's car pushed into Dean's trailer headed for ZR-1 Elysium
in Des Plaines and Pete's Garage.

That's great news. So were there any casualties on the C5-C6 side?
Our boys did a great job and brought the trophy back to the ZR-1 group.
But it wasn't without injury,on my 3rd pass took out my second gear.
Best I mustered was 11.30 it was good enough to bring it home.
We'll make them better, stronger we have the technology for next year.

well it was fun to run the car after 8 years not being on a drag strip with it. I did not run any times that helped win this deal, but I did take one of the other club's car out in the first round, and than in the next round I got put next to Kevin! He was our guy to win this thing and I had to run him, what am I going to do......I know, red light, run slow, miss a gear, something to take me out so Kevin can keep going!
And what happened......as soon as I got up to the line it all went out the window for what I was gong to do, I just ran as hard as I could, Kevin went flying past me right at the end, and that is when it hit me, what did I do, if I beat him I am going to feel like crap!
as I turned on the return road and got to the booth for the time slip Kevin was already gone with his slip and I could not see what he got. As I got up their to get it all I wanted to see was a yellow paper not white, they hand me a yellow slip and I was happy, Kevin beat me, I am saved!
I look at the slip, and I broke out, all the better! it was my best run of the day. I was set up to run 12.300 and the slip was 12.2449.
the days runs in order:
12.5891 120.66
12.3589 121.62
12.3091 119.74

Mods.......
well about 3-4 years ago I need head gaskets as one had a leak, long story for some other time!
Took it to Marc (he is 3 miles from home!) and when I got it back it had 505 HP, best set of head gaskets I ever bought!
it has his 500 HP top end, stock rear end, stock clutch, and flow master, headers and no cats.
I think it was 430 HP to the wheels.
after 8 years I need more seat time to work on the 60 foot time now, 60 foot was:
2.1971
2.0689
2.0490
2.0399
2.1139
2.1100
2.1139
2.0851
listed in same order as my runs.
street tires, rear at 18 pounds and front at 80 pounds.

I think you just gave #2870 his new nickname, "Maximus".......Strength & Honor......
By the way, I ran the corrected sea-level times for my best run, 10.49 @ 133.9 mph.
Standard Atmosphere Sea-Level correction for those numbers would be 10.36 @ 135.5 mph. I'm going to dub the car the fastest street legal N/A ZR1 off of that. Nice work Pete!!

Kevin,
I was laughing my Azz off as I was writing that post. I just thought it was so appropriate. Your car is a true Gladiator and it gave it up for the glory of Rome or Chicago in this case. MAXIMUS is a very accurate name for the performance from your ZR.
Ron,
Also don't forget BobGs 427 w a 10.88 @ 131. Mark and Dean w 120 traps on stock block, stock cammed motors. I ran a 12.4@118+ for my first time taking a car back down this track since losing my blue car. I was on street tires and kept the ASR on ;). Pete and I found a few days later that my throttle may not have been opening completely.
All in all, pretty stellar performance from very streetable cars getting 20+ mpg and idling at a fairly docile 900rpm.

I think Bob G's 427 can beat my car, at least in mph/trap speed. It's of note that Bob had a better 1/8th mile trap than me 103 vs 102 - even on my 10.49 run. We think he was running into a minor tuning problem on the top end of the track. Bob & Pete have a couple of ideas and I threw one of my own out there too. I am pretty certain Bob G can hit 136-137 trap speed if all is right with tuning and weather/track conditions. If he has my automatic by 1mph in the 1/8th, I think if all is right, he can be plus 2mph in the quarter by virtue of the ZF 6-speed.

Well Kevin, this would appear to be shaping up a heck of re-run for the 1/2 mile next year. You were only 1mph slower than the C6Z that won the NA portion of that event. And then we're hoping that Al has his motor sorted out by then.
Wouldn't it be cool to have an LT5 win that event!?
As an FYI guys, I see Wayne went 154 with his Turbo at the Sept. WGF in Georgia

thanks for the info Kevin! congrats on building such a potent combo
interesting to see it has an auto. the 4L65E is a great tranny to build up.
so many nice stroker combos
we need a "modified registry" of all the ZR-1s with heavy mods and their times
the old LSV will do 11.42 @ 129 the MPH indicates its putting down the power but the ET shows a distinct lack of traction
hope to get it out in the nice fall weather, but might not make it.
needs new rear bearings and a bushing or two.
thinking hard about the banski stuff as it looks like it would free up the travel and improve ride and handling
I briefly drove Bob G.s car in the pits at BG and was very impressed at how "docile yet fierce" that car drove with the dual disk clutch
I need one! what does the RAM 9" setup run? I hope it will tame down the tranny gear ratte too. my car sounds more like a diesel truck than a ZR-1 and it gets on my nerves sometimes.
I also think a bit heavier flywheel and clutch package would help the launch
the fidanza is great for road racing but is horrible for drag racing and I don't care much for it. one for sale soon!

Yes - the ZR1s should win the N/A class at those 1/2 mile events. I think Al or Bob would've gotten it done if their car/cars stayed healthy/made the event. I think the only reason I couldn't beat the C6 was the automatic falls flat on its face when shifting into OD right after the 1/4 mark. Not a problem for me in the 1/4, but the 1/2 is a different story. I hit the finish line in the 1/2 at around 5,600 rpm I think I recall - way below power peak. Bob & Al wouldn't have that problem.

Not shown Dean Nelson. Other than the newbie Karl, everyone that had a ZR there ran it.

Thanks Pete. It's good to have faces to attach to such a class act as FBI.
