View Full Version : 95 Seats in a 90?

I must apologize cuz I know there are other threads on this topic. However my phone is not allowing me to search the forum for some reason.
Anyway - my 90 has the seats with the switches n the side bolsters. Hate em. Was at Marc's today and saw a 95 with different seats that looked WAY more comfy, without the switches. Marc said it was common to switch the ones like I have out for the more comfy ones. What are these called and does anybody know where I can find some in black? Will c5 or รง6 seats bolt in?

c5 or c6....why would you want to put sub-standard hardwear in your car

95 Sport Seats are comfy. I have them in my 95 and love them. They also sit up pretty much level with the door sill. Easier in/out.

95-96 sport seats from any C4 will be the same, seat switches are on the center console also a small change in them from 95 to 96 not sure what changes would need to be done to the wiring or if they are plug & play.

uuhhhh Kev have you sat in the 2013 centenial seats???

I wouldn't call them inferior at all. but they are still pretty pricey

saw a set at carlilse going for 2k !!

the 95 seats are VERY nice and are much more comfortable for long trips.

I'm a little broad in the beam and the 90-93 seats also pinch my out thighs a bit and in back of the knees. I tried all the adjustments, and no matter what afte about 4-5 hours of driving, I needed to take a break

no so in the 95. I do 10-12 hours and feel just fine. I sure like the LOOK of the early seat better. also much easier to get in and out of the car.

if anyone is interested in a set of 95 seats (hint hint) let me know.

I'm interested in upgrding to the Corbeau red black seats

I'll make you a good deal on mine let me know.

So - 95 or 96 sport seats.... Will they connect to the 90 wiring harness? Bolt right in? And am I gonna have to search salvage yards or does someone have reman ones? I just dropped some $ on the car - so will be a while before I can buy seats anyway. Thinkin winter project....

I loved the ride of my 95 LT1 Vette, but hated the sport seats in the 90 Z. I found a pair of black standard 95s - had to forgo the special features to install the 95s, but I love 'em, AND they're lighter, if that is important. 94-95 sport seats feel to me to have the same ride comfort (sans those damn bolsters), but can't comment on the wiring.

I like the black/red contrast so much I added black floor mats and a black back deck mat.

Looks good! I'm not worried about weight, just comfort and not having to climb out of the thing like a Gopher out of a hole.....

Maybe it's just the way I'm built but I love the 90 seats. I've done a few 10 hr stints and they are fine for me. Love the look too.

You can have your 90's seats modified!

To go to the 95 sports eats in the 90, the sport seat wiring portion changes other wise they are a bolt it.

there is a nice write up on CF for this, I actually modified the controls to blend in a bit better...

That might be a possibility. Any info on how and who and where?
I fixed the lumbar pump on the drivers seat - but nothing airs up. Thinking the bladders have cracks or something...

Good info! I bookmarked that one. Have to keep my eyes open for some black 95-96 sport seats now - my luck I will find em and not have any $ to get em... :o:o:o

And I just got back from Chicago - 320 miles straight thru - and I REALLY hate those seats. Friggin side things with the switches were wearin me out.... I'm not a small guy - 6'1" and 230, and them things were putting my legs to sleep...

same problem I had. my seats are black and pretty nice. drivers seat has some minor wear marks, pass set hardly sat in.

I need to think over what they are worth to me and send you pics and asking price. let me know what you think is fair. I need to be able to afford the corbeas or they stay "seated" =D>

My wife and I made one 4x4 hour trip in my 90 Z with the sport seats. Same thing: Left leg hurt...until it went to sleep. Wife swore she'd not rid in it again (women have hips, I guess...imagine that!). 94-96 sport seats were not available at the time I found the standard 95s. But, no matter... I love 'em (like I said).

Good luck! If I run across some 94-96 standard seats, U want to know about it??

Yes, please keep me in mind. I'm low on funds right now - but we are definitely going to do something with the seats in the future. Possible to put up or PM me a pic of the "standard" 95 seats?

Got my 95 Sport seats yesterday. They are in awesome shape - but I'm still gonna bring em in the house and apply some leather conditioner, and maybe put a square of thin memory foam between the factory foam and the bottom straps. Wife was refusing to ride in it til I fixed them. So I have a friend who is a salesman for a local used Vette dealer, called him and it just happened he had two 95's on the lot, one with standard and one with sport seats. Sent the wife up there to try em both out - she liked the sport ones better then the standard, (standard she liked better then our 90 sports tho) - so sport is what I got. Will see about wiring and such at some point - for now anything is better so just gonna bolt em in....:dancing

What's the going rate for a pair of those seats?

-=Jeff=-
11-21-2013, 05:01 PM
Depends on condition and what is included...

I know the Pump is $100+ if you can find one, the bladder controls are usual over $200, although deals can be found..

I bought frames from vette2vette and then the leather/foam from a forum member and found all the pieces, I am under $650 complete for both sides and both seats 100% functional

All over the map. I looked on about every Vette salvage place I could find online - nothing. New covers - which have the foam attached as that's how the factory did it, but without the seat frames - are super high at all the Vette parts places (like in the $1200-1400 range) Only decent used ones I could find were on E-Bay. There are some in there that are just shells or junk that would have to be recovered for $399 and up. There was one set they wanted $900 for that had holes and ripped seams. [-X I bid on a set of the standard seats with only 4k miles on them - they went for $656 + 55 shipping. Don't know how high the buyer woulda went - I went to $646 and they got sniped out from under me at the last second (literally)
I got these from the same vendor/salvage yard - fparts. $655 total. They have 65k on them but they are really nice shape with no damage anywhere. I e-mailed them about getting a harness and switch panel - haven't heard back yet.... No hurry on that though - just bolted in they will be better then what I have.. :dancing

UPDATE: and I need more help..:o
I tackled this yesterday. I don't think I have the necessary stuff to do this - but I figured I would ask. For now I'm just bolting the 95 seats in without wiring.
The first two pics are what I got from a salvage yard when I asked for the switch panel and wiring harness:

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i178/Racinfan83/Erics%20ZR-1%20Vette/2014-03-14143318.jpg

This is a pic of the driver side seat I'm putting in - I can't find a plug that fits here??

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i178/Racinfan83/Erics%20ZR-1%20Vette/2014-03-14143358.jpg

And these two are of the passenger seat I'm installing. There is a loose hose with a white end on it - and I can't find anything that fits in that white female plug either:

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i178/Racinfan83/Erics%20ZR-1%20Vette/2014-03-14143418.jpg

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i178/Racinfan83/Erics%20ZR-1%20Vette/2014-03-14143426.jpg

I think I'm missing stuff. What would I ask for?
And how do you get the old harness out of the console? I took every darn screw out of the whole thing and I still am unable to lift the switch panel out more then 1/2". Considering the new panel has white lettering and no ride control switch - I would probably mount it in the console well anyway - but where would I get power from and not mess up the ride control switch on the old panel?
Anyone know what else I need? I put the 95 seats in it and going out to finish up putting the console back together in a bit. I know about the write up - and I PM'ed him as well and he didn't know..
So any help or pics would be appreciated..
I do know that after taking the inside of the car apart I am sore, p.off, and it isn't something I wanna do again for a while. So we got time....

You need the sport seat wiring harness for a 94-95. That will have all the crossover harnessing to use with your seats and power controls. It will complete the install. The sport seat harness will have a 2 write connector that is different then your car but otherwise it is plug and play. It will be best to remove the seats and consoles sides for install

If anyone has some seats they are looking to sell, drop me a line. I am considering installing C4 seats in my 75 C3, the 90-93 with the switches in the seat would be the easiest. Black preferred.

That's where I got my Black fabric '94 seats for $458. Hate leather. Set A/C on snow, and still the leather cooks your hindquarters...

Great deal, but after a year+, P side seat tranny is iffy...

I love my 1990 seats. they really hold me in and it feels more like a sports car that a extra wide non supporting seat. as far as my wife, I dont care if she likes them or not. this car is my car. she can ride if she wants or not if she doesnt. she is easy going so she doesnt mind anything I do. this hobby has always been a personal hobby for me. it is what I like or to hell with it. thank God my wife is fit and small so she fits anywhere and never complains. I do have a roll bar so I moved her seat forward so the back would not hit the roll bar and she wouldnt be sitting straight up. this is a mans sport and hobby so let the wife make due.. unless she paid for your car. Enjoy your seats, especially the tight 1990 sport seats!!

Well in my case - I couldn't stand the 90 sport seats either. Drove 5+hrs each way to Marc's in Chicago - my legs kept going to sleep from the side bottom bolsters. I'm 6"1 215 and like to be comfy. The 95 seats are SO much better as they are. Just gotta get the rest of the wiring so I can get the power stuff to work. As to the wife - mine is fit as well, and she hates the 90 seats too. So I usually subscribe to the "happy wife, happy life" theory. I wouldnt want her to be uncomfortable any more then I would myself. Its a partnership - in life and in cars...

You got a point there. My wife is not a car person so she doesnt care what I do or buy. I agree with happy wife, happy life also. she just stays out of my hobby and supports it. guess i am lucky that way. Hope you get your new seats sorted and are happy with them, both of you.
