An acquaintance needed a drain plug for his ZF and he's in somewhat of a remote location but his son ordered the part # I suggested from a metropolitan Buffalo NY VW dealer for him. I received the snapshot of what he received tonight. Here's an image of the plug and the part # pick ticket from the VW dealer. A dealer may attempt to substitute this part number but insist on this # and you should receive the 17mm hex. The substitute would be a later "spline" drive instead of the hex. The VW part # is WHT-001-937 that I had posted several weeks/months ago. There is still 17mm hex stock.

There's full size images in my album. Don't know why the "thumbnail" doesn't open larger. Oh well the number is the important information if an OE style fill/drain is needed. Full retail I believe was less than $10.

I assume you are saying this plug is an identical Trans Plug replacement for the Fill as well as the drain of the ZF S6 40 Transmissions?
What/where exactly is the source of the plug???
I assume these are the same plug???

If you read my post I mentioned a VW dealer and I also mentioned the "VW pick ticket" for the same purchase. My acquaintance doesn't have a VW dealer that's closer than 80 miles he mentioned. I also mentioned "full retail" and I don't know that the dealer charged a fee for the SOP or maybe a small shipping fee. Didn't ask -
Yes it's the same but when you "check out" at Pelican the USPS shipping increases to $8 + dollars so it makes the less than $10 a much better price. I actually believe he paid something closer to $8 but if you're expecting near $10 it's still a "deal" and it's "LOCAL! I've never understood the "Internet" required purchases. Nothing beats a "hand-shake" and a thank-you besides if you've issues there's always the "toe to toe" let's settle this if needed!
I also mentioned a spline drive replacement that "could" be substituted, done locally that understanding can be handled at order placement or if it's offered at the counter the decision could be made to decline then. Many, many reasons for "local"!

Cliff - I asked my "acquaintance" the actual cost and it was $4.80 across the counter, his Son had told him that when he called to see if they had it he had been quoted less than $10 probably around $8 - when he actually went there to order and "pre-pay" the charge was $4.80, so all the more reason to "SHOP LOCAL" !!!
The nearest VW dealer to me now is something just under 30 miles, they aren't everywhere, but if you've an Audi/Porsche facility it would be the same part #. Price?

A very old thread but some "newer locating for purchasing" possibilities:
VW/AUDI part #: WHT001937 (specify M17 HEX)
Locating and pricing:
VW: http://parts.vw.com/index.cfm?siteid=9
AUDI:https://parts.audiusa.com/index.cfm?siteid=16
Insert the part # and you'll be presented with a zip code search for dealers. In a conversation with them you need to mention the M17 HEX specification. Dealers don't generally charge shipping on special orders placed with them. Some may, you might ask.
I stumbled upon the VW web presence looking for a part for a friend, assumed AUDI should have similar and these are the results.
