I think I read on one of the boards that 'quarts' remained, after draining.

Seems alot ... , but besides residual oil, just by contact, does any oil remain in POOLS anywhere, that cannot be drained?

Oil cooler and lines. Seems to me I've heard 12 quarts total.

Yep - I don't know what the spec is for capacity there efnfast, but I'm sure wondering how much remains when it's 'drained'...

Any ideas...

Well, if there is 12, and you only drain 9, that leaves 3. Is it really worth letting it drip ovenight to get the last couple of teaspoons out. -Steve

i let mine drain till it's just a slow drip coming out and put 10 quarts back in...so I'm going with no.

Always takes me 9 to 9 and a half quarts to refill. I do raise the right front just a bit and let drain about an hour.

With a 'bulletproof' mill, it probably doesn't matter.

To an anal character, it ain't never good enough ... . I owned a fleet for courier and delivery business, and always did the O/C 's myself.

I once did a '95 Ford E250. Got the wrong filter. Put in the plug, went and got the right one, and double-checked :45 minutes later. Got another 3/4 quart...

Still curious how much the cooler lines, etc., hold un-drainable...

8.5 quarts drained with filter......

12 quarts total oil capacity - 8.5 quarts drained = 3.5 quarts un-drainable ;)

Next oil change you drop 8.5 quarts of the 12 quarts or 71% of the oil and also drop 71% of that 3.5 quarts = 2.5 quarts remaining from last oil change so now you have 1 quart of old oil still in the engine from two oil changes before. Now one more time....third oil change you waste 2.5 quarts of the previous oil change and .71 quarts of the previous previous oil change...and on and on....

OK :D

I let oil filter drain over night so no mess before I remove the oil filter (wipe with oil on finger the new oil filter gasket before installing new oil filter).

I just pull the plug and let the oil draining get to a drip (once steady stream has quit) and then replace plug with some permatex on the washer. I hand tighten (no torque wrench with a box wrench) and wipe any excess oil from the plug with paper towel :dancing

Oh...I use two short 2x12s staggard and stacked under drivers side wheel before I turn off engine overnight to gain access for my floor jack under the air foil.

This is from the original owner's manual that was still in my 90's glove box when I got the car.
Crankcase ( VIN Engine Code J )
w/o filter change = 7.6 qts (7.2L )
w/filter change = 8.6 qts ( 8.1L )

I think in the FSM they get more specific as to what the capacity of the oil cooler is. I seem to remember something like 2.5 qts, but I'm not 100%
