Hi,

I want to change out both rear wheel bearings in the very near future. I have searched the threads and contacted corvettewheelbearings.com and now I would like some feedback from the list. CWB offers 2 configurations of RWB and I would like some feedback on what has worked and what has not.

I am temped to buy the tapered bearing style because it just seems to be a more robust bearing design and all the CWB's products are built in the USA.

We drive the ZR in a conservative manner. No track days and no pushing the limits on the open road. I do want the rear wheel bearing system to be bullet proof and last a long time.

So, is the tapered bearing design better or is the OEM ball bearing the best choice.

Any comments, ideas or whatever would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Don

Don't know much about the different designs but I can tell you that The cheap ones I bought on e-bay were no better then the worn out ones I replaced. I went with origional AC Delco after that and they are like new. Got 150,000 on the first set.

I've been running National rear bearings at the track for a long time. I heard the tapers don't really last any longer at the track.

Rockauto has either SKF or AC delco. I have AC Delco waiting to go in. I've seen several reboxed Nationals that really weren't National, so they're kind of hard to find the real thing. I've seen SKF boxed bearings with National stamped on the flange.

AC Delco is only one I haven't seen in the wrong box yet. But for the street I wouldn't hesitate to use any of those brands.

I was told by multiple sources the tapered haven't worked out as expected. Just get the standard SKF (NAPA premium) or Timkens by Wheel Bearings Inc.
