Anyone see that Ford is putting a flat plane crank in the DOHC Coyote motor; is supposed to crank out close to 600hp with no power adders....NA.
Would be an awesome seting for an LT-5

Last Quote I got in about 2008 was $4500 for an LT5 flat plane crank. Need new cams to match $5000.
92.4mm stroke and that is as big as you could go due to vibration. That's like 389 cu in with a 4.125 bore. Would have to turn it to around 8200 to equal what a maxed out 427 does with conventional crank.
Yes, I've thought about this ....

I think I know where one is for the LT-5 if you are interested.

No. Geoff is on vacation at the moment. He tried it and was not too happy with it but I will ask next week what his experience was and did he want to sell it.

Lee,
Is that for stock Coyotes?
Didn't someone have a vid of a flat plane crank LT-5 at one time?
Wonder if Graham has any comment?

Lotus GT-1 ran a flat plane LT-5, the Coyote version will be the next GT350

About two years ago Doug Rippie told me that he had just completed a LT5 engine with a flat plane crankshaft. His customer was in FL.
I would expect that a flat plane crank would be worth 15 hp in a 600 hp LT5. All due to better exhaust scavenging.

Marc,
That's interesting because it aligns w the results of using a higher duration/higher lift exhaust cam. Was the motor stock otherwise?

Hi Tyler, sold the crank, rods, pistons and cams about two years ago. Flat plane is ok for power but runs out of balance as two four cylinder engines so vibration is huge. I wouldn't advise using for road applications.

Ford may have solved the balance problems but I would be interested in just how they did it.

Apparently balance shafts are needed to run a flat plane...

So, I'm learning something new. Never heard of a flat plane crank.
I've read the benefits are you can fire LRLRLRLR, or the reverse - odd-even ect. HOWEVER, according to Wikipedia, the fireing order of the Coyote is LLRRRLLR???

Sounds like more trouble than its worth depending on application.

Seems like an awful lot of work for 15 hp.

Ferrari uses Flat Plane Cranks on all its Supercars....I think its worth alittle more than 15hp....move F1s run a flat crank.

Looks like they got 659hp from a 6 liter LT-5

So that's about a 360CI. What have we (really I mean you guys) gotten from our LT-5's at 6 liters?

I think you could get 560 or so out of a 368(keep in mind you might need a 2K idle for that Lotus GT-1)

So, you think you could get about 100 hp from this crank?
How come I find the Coyote to have such a stange firing order? Seems that's where most of the hp comes from.

I think I heard Loco just 480rwhp out of his 368 with stock cams. That's about 550ish crank, right. Put in a set Pete cams, I think you would be knocking on the door 600ish.

Upgrade path for a 368 ci engine:
If the starting point is a maxed out 350 with 500 hp the added displacement will take the engine to about 530 hp.
Adding Stage I cams should add 20 hp.
Adding Stage II cams should add 40 hp. With Stage II cams a loss of low speed torque is likely.

50rwhp I don't think so. 20-25 yeah.

So Lee, you're saying the added displacement is worth 30hp. So take a ported 350 WITH Pete cams, 535-540chp, add 18 CI, and you have 570chp.

I am not saying anything I just pulled that from Marcs notes....kind of what I referenced the 560 from before

Is that crank or rwhp ? The 659 I was thinking Crank?
Rob hit 480 rwhp 552 crank. I think that's about the strongest 368(stock cam) I have heard of...
This is the strongest 350 ( stock )rwhp I know of. K&N and port work only.
Stock ex manifolds, cats, mufflers, cams. That's 488Crank!!

Not too shabby for stock exhaust car. I think the closest comparo to that is PW's stock 90 w FBI porting and headers, ~ 435rwhp.
