View Full Version : Fuel Injector with Blue Cap On End

I bought fuel injectors from FIC some years ago and I'm finally going to install them. I found that the secondaries have a blue cap on the tip. I think somebody posted about this recently but a search could not find it. Does the blue cap need to be removed?

This has been quite a tough job for me. Pulling out the fuel rail is pretty hard for an old guy like me. Cleaning the o-ring groove in the injector housing for the primaries is not going to be easy either.

Since I have the plenum off, I also cut my MSD ignition wires shorter. They were somewhat longer than the stock wires and make a mess running up against the fire wall. I did leave them a little longer than stock in case I messed up and had to redo a stripping and crimping. I only had to do one of them twice.

I'm pretty sure I'm alone here on Maui. I was able to get the fuel rail off. It just took a lot of effort and some prying.

I'm just not sure if I'm supposed to remove the blue cap on the injector. It has a hole in it so it looks like it will work with the cap on but it would not be good if the cap comes off.

Howzit Myles,

Can you post a photo of the injector with cap? I would imagine the cap is just a seal during storage.

Hey Myles,

Here it is: http://zr1.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18138&page=2

See posts #18 and #20. You could also email the guy for clarification. Very interesting. I have a new sealed set of FICs and did not even look at these compared to my RC Injectors. Best wishes to a successful repair.

Aloha,

Craig

Thanks Craig. I see what their talking about. The stock injectors have a groove that the o-ring sits in. The Bosch II injector does not have a groove and the o-ring could possibly come off and be left in the injector housing. I doubt that it would fall in though. If it came off, I would think you could get it out with some kind of pick. I'll leave the cap on anyway.

They were shipped with black covers over both ends.

Wow Myles, thanks for the question and good to know. I can see why one would question this and I would too. I could not imagine those blue caps if you did not post a photo. I should probably print this and put it in the box with the FICs; my memory does not last long and when I need them I will have forgotten.

This is interesting as i ordered fic injectors last Wednesday. Thought that they would get here Saturday but that was too much to ask from USPS. Plenum is off and everything clean and ready. He said they would be rebuilt Bosch. Now wondering if i`ll get the blue caps too.

Have you removed the fuel rail yet? Mine was pretty difficult to remove. When I removed the fuel injectors from the rails, I found that even the individual injectors were difficult to remove. I guess they got real comfortable in there over 22 years. I pulled, twisted and rocked them back and forth. When they came out, the o-rings were still in the fuel rail. It's no wonder the fuel rail with 8 injectors is hard to remove. When I went to the other fuel rail, I put some oil in the space between the hole in the rail and the injectors. After rocking them back and forth and letting them sit for a short time, they were still a little hard to pull out but the o-rings came out with the injectors. Has anyone tried spraying some WD 40 in the injector housings before removing the fuel rails?

This makes me wonder if the blue caps would come off if the o-rings are sticking to the walls of the injector housing when you pull off the fuel rail. Since those are the secondaries, the secondary throttle will stop it from going into the engine. Might be difficult to fish it out though.

1991, Thanks for the good advise. Now i`m in one of those "why didn`t i think of that moods". I haven`t removed the rails or injectors yet. My injectors came in the mail today. They look exactly like yours with the blue cap. Within the next 30 minutes i`ll be out in the shop with some Kroil oil. Yesterday i read somewhere to reinstall them with Palmolive dishwashing soap. They said that oil would distort the o-rings over a period of time. That makes sense. I hope Dawn dishwashing liquid works. If nothing changes i`ll be working the midnight shift on the beast tonight with no distractions. Many Thanks, Richard
