I need to gauge everyones interest in having some custom DSP's made. I'm working with a local machine shop that has everything from CNC equipment to water jets. They are into Fox body Mustangs and they custom build a lot of one off car parts for their cars. Really high end quality stuff. I'm going to have a set made for my car in either SS or brushed aluminum. They can do everything from lazer etching to embossed work with colors so I was thinking of having "ZR-1" or "THE BEAST" done in AB to match the car or something like that. I haven't decided on that part yet.
So, I thought I would see how many would be interested and doing a group buy. I know it will depend on the cost so I'm not looking for solid commitment just an idea of how many might be interested. They're big enough to make as many as we want and the bigger the order the better the price.
We haven't even discussed price yet. He's going to make mine and then we can talk money.
Let me know...

He was my first choice but he said he really wasn't set up to do that kind of work. Trust me, I'm a Carter believer.

I'm also gigging this consideration. I want mine to be a little different than the standard units.

Would be neat if the ZR-1 logo was embossed vs a decal.

BAM!.....THATS IT!...!...Brett, thats what has to happen, a sharp engraving with inlay painting.
Now on to the design....:icon_scra
IMO: it should be a bit modern with a currently used LOGO.
Any ideas?

Would the script logo be better than maybe the ZR-1 Splash logo? Also done in body color.

To me, they are both very similar to each other. My design is similar.

Exactly. That's the whole point of this project. This is not for mass production. These will be custom made for ZR-1 Net Registry members only. And I think I'll have a few extras made and donate them to the club for future give aways and prizes at events.

Ok, cool. I was also thinking of that logo being embossed or engraved in several different available colors so it sounds like we all are kind of thinking the same thing. Any interest in maybe the last 4 of the VIN being stamped or etched very small in a corner or something. That way they would be custom for that particular car.

Also, who owns that logo? Will I need to get permission to use it?

I'm down for a set. The logo Carter uses on his center wheel caps would be perfect. Nice and clean design. Jmho

I agree, an engraved logo in a chrome set with the paint to match the body color!...I would think Brett could get any color?? Also wouldn't need that much paint to do it!
Provide them at a decent price and I would think everybody would want a set!
Just look at Roberts key chain!..those things are bad-a$$!!!
EVERYBODY should have one of those !!!;)

Decent price is relative. There are decent priced ones on the market now. But I don't like any of them. These will be custom made to your liking and a very good build quality out of excellent material. I've ordered a set to cut down on the developmental cost and time. As soon as I get them in I'll run them over with a few ideas about design and logo layout and at that time I'm sure he can give me an idea about cost.
Any other ideas you guys have let me know...

The set I ordered came in last week and I ran them over to the shop on like Friday. They will probably call me in a few weeks for a test fit.
I'll keep you posted...

Hey David
It would depend on price, but I might be interested in something. I'd want something in black with a custom etched design if I was going to do it.
Thanks

When you suggest paint to match body color? Paint what if they are chrome?
Or....you suggesting the color of the engraving to match body color?

Yes......
I am interested in SS engraved with ZR-1 (two sets).
Something like the ZR-1 engraving on the SS Air Box

Heres mine, made these years ago.Not sure if this is what youre talking about but they work for me.This is the only area that isnt protected and Ive never seen anything in the aftermarket that covers this area, plenty of stuff for the high sill area as you know.I cant imagine the OP having something made thats already out there so it must be for the painted area on the top of the rocker. If this is the area in question keep in mind that this area isnt flat,it has a gradual twist as it moves towards the back of the car,you can see this at the front of the panel.http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a136/FLYTYM/DSC00359.jpghttp://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a136/FLYTYM/DSC00358.jpg

WOW....very nice..I think they were talking the "After Market" chrome portector above the sill over the existing carpet which gets foot traffic. But now having seen your "Sill Protectors" I am on my way out to look at what I might do in that regard just like yours.....Great Idea...I like em

Im keeping these for a spare.Ive got a friend that had a connection at a metal company,I gave him the dimensions and he cut me a few sets. The ends were just straight cut so I did my own angled cut.Ill ask him if he still has the connection,if so Ill see what I can do about getting these out there for a few that might want a set.Ill get a better picture of mine when I get a chance.

You are correct sir.
You're also correct about the body color being in the embossed ZR-1 Splash. No plans for a decal. I'm thinking the only two colors will be black and either brushed aluminum or SS. Both with the body colored splash logo.
