So which is the more preferred style?
90-93

or
94-95(96)

I am debating of changing to the 94-later style in my 90.. as I already have the 1994-later door panels (which I prefer over the 90-93 panels)

I really hate that deluso crap. Ruined the 94-96 interior. Love the seats and the door hidden pockets

I didn't even know.
How are they different?
The Dulso coating?

the last 3 year style is better and more functional, but the quality is terrible. Even the dash pad bends around the edges...then as mentioned, the rubber dulso coating and the easily warped and crackable door panels are junk too.
The new interior is great if you never have to expose it to the sun I guess.

.... Love the seats and the door hidden pockets
I thought the smuggling compartments were a clever fix to the loss of the glove box too.
The two best features of the newer interior are the white ink for the gauges and the bigger footwell area near the clutch pedal. I went from a 95 (LT1 car) to a 91 and that was glaringly obvious the first time i drove my current C4.

GC,
I would clean the Dulso off and not have that, while I know the 94-96 stuff is cheaper in quality it seems.. I do prefer the design of the 94-96 door panels, not the construction but the way they look.
I have the 94-96 panels on my car and will more then likely keep the modded interior that I have as the way I have it set up makes it slightly different from the rest

I also prefer the newer style door panels. As far as the dash I like how the right side is all one piece vs the earlier split design.

Just for me. I like the overall design of the later door panels and the hidden compartments. But the quality isn't even close to the earlier ones. I have a set that I got to upgrade with but have never installed them because of that. I plan to get them recovered (custom) at some point maybe to match my shift boot and other interior stuff and then I'll install them.
I like the black dash panels and white writing on the later models, but not enough that I'd probably change them. Have been thinking of getting them coated black though - again just a possibility.
I really dislike the later steering wheel with the two spoke design. That just looks wrong to me.
Just my thoughts.

Its was actually clever since it solved the loss of glove box storage due to the passenger side airbag. I wish they would have thought of it sooner. The door panels otherwise are pure 1 piece garbage. At least when the door panels on the earlier panels broke you could salvage three sizeable parts. For the 94-96 drop the whole unit in the trash.
Sorry I disagree Orange is the best night time driving option vs white. It helps with night vision vs white backlight

The Deluso coating?
While the dash is not deluso it covered the vents, radio surround, console etc are covered with a rubberized coating which mars, scratches, melts and becomes gummy. IMHO it ruined the interior from 93 up.

CF brother... it would solve so many problems.... I'll admit expensive however would solve your lettering problem and resolve the deluso issue as well

the white lettering is still orange/red at night
so here is where I think I will end up:
- leave 1990 dash and controls pretty much as is
- 94 style door panels (current)
- modded Console and radio bezels (current)
- 94 driver side console side panel (current)
- 94 pass lower side hush panel (to match door panels)
- 90-93 dash pad ( just need to find a better one)
- 94 Sport seats (Current)
I already have black and torch red 94-up carpet which I prefer..
below is a picture of my current center console with the modded pieces I mentioned above. I do need to recolor the Sport seat switch which I have a spare and I am in process of working on

Prefer the early style as it has better details, I do like the later door panels.

Eventually I'm sure I'll do a CF mod on my 94;)

Now that I have both styles I'm not biased anymore :)>
I still prefer the early seats by far but since this is about the dash .. The doors on the 94+ are win. So are the styling for the vents. I didn't buy a 91(2?) because of the grey and I only like the all black like on my 93. I love the panel in the middle that doesn't let the passenger fool with the stereo ...
Slight win .. 93. Will be wrapping both in carbon wrap soon. Did a few things on my old m3 it was really fun.
Did inside the headlight lenses and grille slats ..

Forgot to mention the 93 steering wheel looks dated but shaped much better than the 94. Doesn't bother me though ill be pulling it for a Momo and nrg release hub like the 93 :)

Nice job on the carbon wrap ! How hard is it to do?
Though I voted for the later one, my true preference is for 1989. I do wish they would have given us the digital dash for at least one year.
Hah! Turns out the word Deluso, means disappointed in Italian....

1989. No airbags. Sharply folded surfaces. And a cluster like no other that I know of, before or since in terms of technology.

I owned an 84. That tach had even more latency than the production tach has.
